I like the design, for me the jimping and thinner stock over the original is a game changer, but I’ll happily wait until more steel options become available.

I don’t particularly have anything against BD1N but after using Spy27 and using Magnacut extensively, it falls short in performance for me. Difficult to go back to a knife I need to maintain sharpness much more frequently.

A Magnacut version would be the perfect EDC.

Well, this steel is the standard for all LW Natives, big or small, so it’s no surprise. And just like with the other Natives, I’m sure SPY27 and Magnacut are on the way—but I’m getting impatient! :winking-tongue
BD1N is only standard for the Native Chief Lightweight, and now the Lil Native Lightweight models. The Native 5 Lightweight has been S30V for years now, and was previously S35VN.

Undoubtedly we will see many steels in the LNLW platform. It only took ~2 years for the LNLW to drop in BD1N... so you may have to find a way to quell your impatience :zany
Oops, my tired brain just mixed up the N5 with the Para3 at this point 😄

I really like these new LW models, although of course I'd like to see a more premium steel.

On a somewhat related note, has there ever been talk of a Lil' Native hawkbill?

At this point, I'm curious...what are you all cutting that BD1N isn't sufficient enough?? I feel a majority of people talk about cutting cardboard and fruits... BD1N can last years on that.

I think the LN backlock and CL are better than the Techno if one wants a small tank. I looked and bought the LN BL. But, the blade is way too thick for real world use. The new light weight looks like what I wish I had bought. LC200N and black scales, anyone?

Sad to say it, but I believe LC200N has nearly "maxed out" its capacity. I think MagnaCut has overshadowed LC200N, to the point that there may be no more "new" LC200N Salt knives. Although unconfirmed, I've also read that LC200N is going towards the hardware and machined parts for many of the Salt series knives, which may reduce its presence as a blade steel. We're still waiting on that LC200N Dragonfly 2, aren't we :no-mouth?

Yeah, but I think LC200N still has a lot to offer. It has good edge retention, especially for a pocket knife, which isn't normally used hard. It has far better edge retention than H1/H2 in a salt knife. It is very tough, too. I think it is pretty well balanced. I don't think it will ever be replaced. It would be the perfect base steel, instead of BD1N or something.

In my experience with both the BD1N and Magnacut UKPK’s cutting mainly fibrous plant material, the Magnacut version requires significantly less sharpening / stropping to maintain a effortless hair-popping edge to moderately keen working edge. I’d say BD1N requires around double the edge maintenance over Magnacut to maintain a similar level of sharpness.

This past Christmas I gifted my compression lock Lil’ Native to our youth pastor, that knife was just okay, didn’t really care for the CL or wire clip.

Recently found a discontinued serrated, back lock, spoon clip Lil’ Native at White Mountain Knives, this is the LN I wanted all along! I’ve moved more towards larger heavier knives so this is the smallest knife I own.

I can’t see the LW being better than this one, this little guy is a ripper!

Here’s a pic of what I call my little fatties!

It’s interesting. I never liked the Native 5 but with the lil brother it was instant love affair. I would be very interested in a SPY27 lw lil native.

I would also like to see a Lil' Native LW wharncliffe, preferably SE. The G10 one fits my hand perfectly but I never really warmed up to G10 as a handle material, and, for me, lighter is almost always better.

Count me in the LW Lil Native with Spy27 and that nice blue FRN. I too wish that my complock Lil Native had thinner blade stock.
The LW Lil Native really does seem like the Golden equivalent of the Dragonfly 2.
