Dodo? That’s as close to a Manix mini right now, but money’s about the same…

I’d be in for a Minix too … But I didn’t go to college

One thing Spyderco does not do is listen to the suggestions of their customers.
This is boggling enough to be almost hilarious. It posits not listening to customers while being posted on a forum created and managed at some expense specifically for the purpose of listening to customers. :exploding-head
And, there were recent upgrades to servers, software, etc. to make this communication easier.

They listen so much that it comes at their own detriment sometimes. (i.e - wharncliffe everything)
Did they offer a Wharncliffe version of the PM , Manix, Sage and Shaman models? As far as I know they only offered them for some of the lockbacks. That's the only reason I never got one.

they did the pm2.

there's also the q-ball, yojimbo / micro / jumbo, autonomy and some fixed blades. while they were built from the ground up as wharnies, im just pointing them out because they're not lock-backs.

I thought I remembered a PM2 Wharncliffe, but I think I have only seen it in pics of other people's collections. Are they still widely available?

I've always wanted a Manix Wharncliffe. I saw someone with a modded one to accomplish it and it looked pretty nice.

AFAIK, the wharnie PM2 is a CutleryShoppe exclusive, so not widely available. They have released them in S30V and CTS-XHP, in satin and DLC. No news about any future releases though.

I believe there is also a wharnie Para 3 in the pipeline, but don't quote me on that.

The Native 5 could also be a smaller Manix if you think of the C95.

Here is a Manix 2 modified in more ways than one, but I did resize it to fit more of a medium size role. Some find the Manix 2 ‘a little big’ for pocket carry, and while it does nothing to decrease height, it does seem to get sort of shave off that ‘a little big’ feel the Manix had, while keeping the same ergos.

And the ergos are a big deal when it comes to the Manix design, because of how contoured the grip is to the hand. You can’t simply scale that down and have it work the same. So I took off what to me was excessive or unneeded length in the handle and blade, retapped for a pocket clip, and it has become one of my favorites. I think I lost more than 1/2” in total length. The blade ended up around 3.2” I think, and should be taken down just a hair more because it is too close to the end of the knife for most. It bit me twice on closing before muscle memory took care of that problem.

Looking at this just solidifies for me that a BBL Sage would be exactly what everyone wants in a Mini Manix 2.

BBL Sage seems all but inevitable. Hopefully they solve and eliminate the handle "hump" that was needed for the Sage3

Mini Manix2 is such a popular request over the years, hard to imagine it doesn't take off in sales like the Para3 did.

Maybe the Sage is the ‘mini Manix’ platform that people are hoping for, but the knives feel different to me.

In comparing my shortened Manix 2 with the Sage, the Sage feels smaller in every dimension. I would describe it as ‘dainty’, even compared to my modified Manix.

My opinion isn’t worth a hill of beans, but someone that wants a smaller Manix 2 but still the robust feel of the Manix line may desire more than the Sage. A thicker Sage could possibly get there?

One thing Spyderco does not do is listen to the suggestions of their customers. That being said, you get what you get. There will never be a small manix or a shaman in S45vn or whatever else you can think of.
