Aftermarket Ti scales for the Sage 6?

#1

Post by stuehler »

I'm a huge fan of the aftermarket Ti scales from incredible makers like Rockscale Design and Ripps Garage Tech. I've got them on most of my Spydercos - they're awesome, and really elevate the knives.

Now, I've fallen in love with the Sage 6 - it's awesome almost every way, and it's my current favorite EDC.

So, I'm wondering if anyone is making Ti scales for it? I know Kevin Smock mentioned that he was planning on it, but I think he's put those plans on hold while he focuses on other projects.

Thanks in advance!

I'd suggest contacting those makers directly. They determine what they're going to make based on customer feedback anyhow. I somewhat regularly correspond with the RGT folks. They're great.

Can't reccomend AWT enough. They killed it with the PM2 liner delete, essentially making the PM2 LW we have been waiting for... And I just got a set for the Sage5 and it's a game changer with the contouring.

AWT doesn't have Titanium scales but their Cerakote aluminum scales are killer. Fit perfect and the new aggressive texture is my favorite.

If the Sage 6 was just a little longer blade, like maybe XL version I would be all over it. But now you get the option for these AWT scales, does have me rethinking the Sage 6 lol... this knife in a 4" blade would really be quite the knife.

I'll just throw in another recommendation for AWT, every single Spydie in my EDC "Primary (PE)" rotation has skinny AWT scales, they are just that good.

Received my AWT Sage 6 scales a few days ago and love them. They add about an ounce compared to the CF scales and feel solid. The chamfered edges feel great in the hand. I have a few other AWT scales for my Para 3 LWs and a PM2, these Sage 6 scales have a more aggressive milling pattern that gives just a little bit more grip over the less milled scales and it’s really nice. Highly recommended.

Also, the rigidity of the scales have gotten rid of an issue I previously had where if I pressed the button lock or CF scales around the button too hard the blade would stop opening or closing from the pressure. The blade freely drops with the AWT scales whenever I press the button lock. I assume it’s because I can’t compress the aluminum scales like I could with the carbon fiber scales.

Glad to hear. That's a classy looking combo!

i wish awt would make non-skinny manix scales. the skinny versions all look terrible to me and they kill the ergos and lines that were designed into the knife. my three favorite models right now are the manix, military 2, and yojumbo. they're all skinny models only and look ridiculous in my opinion.

the sage scales look great though.

Agreed. I had their Manix2 scales and went back to the OG. Still hoping for liner delete Endura scales!

Was that you that had that video showing when you would press on it a certain way, it would put the brakes on the blade swinging? If so, I'm really glad that the scales fixed it.

I love a good 'raw' scale, and I know AWT can do them for the PM2 because I've seen them, but I wonder if it could be an option with something like this.

Yep that was me with that video, It is nice that these scales fixed the issue (not that it was a big issue).

It looks like you can get raw stonewashed aluminum as an option for the Safe 6 scales on their website.

I would imagine Parsons will eventually make some compatible with the 6. Theirs are about the nicest scales I've ever seen, but the cost also reflects that.
