The Starmate 20CV G-10 Sprint Run is made in the U.S.

LOL! Don't you have your own knife collection to bet with? ',:-| This new sprint is using nested liners, so there definitely was some redesigning and re-engineering that went into it. It's mentioned in the reveal. It also has the inlay in the handle again, which is another additional expense.

The only reason I mentioned the collaborator compensation rate was because it seemed like there was some insinuation that the designers name was demanding more than what Spyderco typically offers to everyone else.

The pricing probably reflects the fact that it's made in Japan. Their Japanese-made G10 models have tended to be in the higher price range for a long time now. The Starmate's pricing is definitely up there but it's also in line with what we should have come to expect from that category.
The Reveal indicates that the Starmate Sprint will be made in Golden.

I did not know the OG lacked nested liners, so that makes it even more of a steal. The logo inlay, too.

I stand corrected. :respect I only own the Japanese made version and assumed this one was made there as well. Interesting that they’ve brought it back to Golden.

If you consider $337 a steal, more power to ya! :no-mouth

Don't get me wrong, Nick. I think $337 is an expensive knife. Most I've ever spent was $450 on the KJ Slysz Bowie. I've only crossed 300 a few times. I just think that *for this knife* it is a steal.

Add to all the reasons cited earlier the fact that it is a Sprint that will hold it's value better than a common production model.

My deal with my wife is that she gets to sell my collection after I step on a rainbow so she can finance a world cruise with her new boyfriend. As she is convinced that her new beau will be Michael Fassbender she appreciates it when I invest wisely in my hobby.

The Dyad Jr looks interesting. The Spy27 Bodi looks good. Lil Native lock back in 15v is nice. The metropolitan - meh! UKPK will remain the Slippy king.

But I have no idea why anyone would want to pay an extra $200 premium for the fat carbon Chaparral over the FRN version. No chance of me parting with that much, especially with not even a steel upgrade!

Historically, I don’t really know if $337 is good or not for a Starmate,
lol, that is an outrageous price for a knife. I assume this knife is important to some collectors, but I think most of us are over the $300+ prices.
Well given Bob's immense impact on knife design and his own place in Spyderco's history yeah it's a pretty important knife and certainly worthy of re-release. As a sprint I don't think it's overpriced especially considering what the original versions bring on the secondary and the overall pricing from other manufacturers. Honestly I think we're kind of spoiled when we look at pricing, especially when some dealer exclusives actually sell for less than the standard catalog model.

Just to put pricing into perspective, I thought this can help visualize where we are today. This is the decline of the purchasing power of the US dollar relative to gold (which is, and always was, the only true "money"). The dollar is not what it was only a year ago.

The one item I can't live without is the Magna mule. Not sure about the 19C27 mule...I don't understand that steel yet.

Not going to be a popular steel, and will sit a long while for you to make up your mind to ultimately pass on the purchase ;).

19C27, aka, AEB-H, was the precursor steel to the development of 13C26, aka, AEB-L. It's pretty much a more wear resistant, less tough version of 13C26/AEB-L. Supposed to be an equivalent to MBS-26, which Spyderco has/had used in their kitchen cutlery for years. Perhaps a bit less corrosion and wear resistance when compared to 440C. Very good steel, but not a steel that folks look for, or care about from Spyderco.

I've been looking forward to this one for quite some time. Interested to see what they did with the steel.

I LOVE that they are re-doing the Starmate. I was instantly excited when I saw that one in the reveal! At $337 though.. it better be perfection.

Maybe you don’t own the K390 Urban. The italian made slipits are very thin bte compared to the UKPK which is unacceptable thick bte IMO. If they made the Met at K390 Urban quality, it’s going to be a huge success. I only hope Sal will stay on top of this project.

I’ve honestly not tried the K390 Urban.
I have owned the HH S30V / reddish pink FRN and The British Blades exclusive in Elmax which had one of the firmest backswings of any slipjoint I’ve ever owned - which I was OK with. And even briefly owned the infamous HH S90V / g10 version. I didn’t particularly enjoy the ergos of the Urban much, and I think that’s mainly why I was willing to overlook the Metropolitan at first glance.

I know what you mean about the BTE of the UKPK - it’s a touch thicker than I’d like too, but the ergos and the overall package it provides make it the best of the Spyderco slippies for me so far.
Maybe I was too hasty to right the metropolitan off… I take it back it. I’ll be keeping an eye out for it when it’s released.

Watched some more videos with the shaman lightweight. Looks really great and hopefully paves the way for the exclusives in the lightweight format. I know th YouTube “reviewers” will critique the lack of G10 but I think it’s a great idea.
