Name is Matt and I have lived in Colorado my whole life, I am married with two adult children and have two Grandkids.
I enjoy ice fishing, and fishing of all kinds, I collect guns and have been on a 2011 kick lately :) started collecting Randall knives in the late eighties and have expanded to folders, straight blades, autos and knives of all kinds. I think Spyderco makes the BEST ECD knife.

Hello, my name is Tomek (Tony) from Poland, I have been collecting knives for 4-5 years. I started with military knives. Then came folding, sicilian knives, otf, craft knives. My partners and friends only give me knives as gifts and I already have about 30-40 knives. I buy a lot myself, I think I'm addicted. I've had my eye on Spyderco for a long time because this company is great! this forum is the best! people who are passionate about knives are great! honorable, loyal and brave much more than other communities. Best regards, good luck!

Re: Tell us about yourself!
Originally from North Carolina, I joined the Army at 18 and served for 33 years as a nurse and First Sergeant in the Army reserves. My time took me from Afghanistan to Korea and everywhere in between. My father, a proud Marine, shared his love of blades with me, showing me knives from all over the world and trying his hardest to teach me how to sharpen them. I’m getting better at it, though I doubt I’ll ever match his skill. He was a frugal man and would have balked at the price of some of my knives, but once I showed him their quality, he ended up getting two for himself. I laid him to rest in 2019, and I think of him often when I work with my knives.
For the past 20 years, I’ve called Colorado home. Over the last decade, I’ve become a dedicated Spyderco fan. I’ve even sold other knives just to get my hands on a Para 3 once. This forum is an incredible resource, filled with so much knowledge. I tell every veteran I can about Spyderco and the support and resilience they offer, especially through their OpFocus program. While Veterans Affairs doesn’t promote Spyderco, I’ve encouraged others to visit the factory in Golden. Without fail, they return with treasures and gratitude for the insight.
During the pandemic, I had the honor of leading an 87-member crew of the Urban Augmentation Medical Task Force (UMATF) to McAllen, TX. As we prepared to open supply boxes filled with masks, PII, and other essentials, I purchased five serrated Tenacious blades for the team. The troops absolutely loved them, and we got right to work. It was a shining moment—seeing troops motivated and excited to have real, quality knives in their hands.
Attending the secondary sales events at Spyderco is always a highlight's. Thank you "Candyman and Mushroom" The camaraderie among the staff and attendees is something special—an experience I hope more people get to witness. It’s amazing to see folks coming out of the woodwork, hunting for deals and sharing stories.
That’s my story. To those who know, carrying a Spyderco means something. Thank you for the privilege of your time.

Re: Tell us about yourself!
Howdy, my name is Hans!
I was born and raised in South Africa, home language Afrikaans, with English as second language. I'm a Christian, 47 years old, happily married (21 years) with two beautiful teenage girls, 16 and 14. We have a mini Schnauzer, which gets waaay too much attention in my opinion...
I studied electrical engineering, and worked as a process control engineer at the only large stainless steel smelter in South Africa. It was an interesting few years working where steel was melted, molten steel's chemistry refined, cast into massive slabs, and rolled into plate. This sparked my interest in materials science and steel chemistry.
I've been a software engineer for most of my career. I worked in the health insurance industry, large Fintech (credit card and online payments), and real estate IT.
8 years ago we moved as a family permanently to Australia. We are now Australian citizens too, and live in the beautiful countryside outside Melbourne.
I've been fascinated with pocket knives since my dad gave me a little SAK Classic at 7. I've carried a Pioneer for the best part of adulthood, before the term "EDC" was coined. I discovered Spyderco when I went searching for a better knife steel than Victorinox. The Pioneer was demoted to the left front pocket.
Other than knives, my hobbies started with hiking as a poor student, cross country mountain bike racing on a cheap hardtail in my late 20's, camping, and adventure motorcycling. I like a wide range of music, but I especially enjoy rock, alternative and progressive rock from the '70's to '00's.
My pride and joy is a well-sorted Honda Africa Twin 1000cc adventure bike. Over weekends I often clear my head by sliding this big bike around dirt roads and tracks in the mountains nearby.

I love puttering around my garage workshop and enjoy good quality tools. I always seem to be buying more tools... One day, after society had collapsed completely, I imagine I'd be well-prepared to fix whatever half-broken machines remain, to jump-start my little corner of civilisation again. One thing is certain, I won't have a shortage of pocket knives!

Re: Tell us about yourself!
Hey there folks :) my real name is Christoph, I'm 32 and live in Austria, born and raised. My knife journey began as a small kid, I grew up around fields and forests so we always had a knife on us, usually some kind of cheap SAK or knockoff thereof. When I was 19, had my own car and money, I went to a hunting store and bought my first "real" knife, a Gerber Freeman Guide for 30€, which was a lot of money for me and I was convinced that for "that kind of money", I'd be getting top shelf quality.
Enter YouTube, I discovered knives in price ranges that were unfathomable to me at the time, as I couldn't see what kind of advantage a knife for 300€ *could* have over one for 50€. I was heavily into bushcraft and fixed blades and archery back then, and when I saw a TOPS Tracker on an archery buddy, I knew I had to have one. That was the knife that started my appreciation for high-quality tools, and soon after I ended up with a lot of fixed blades in the 120 - 300€ range.
Also at that time, I discovered Pete from Cedric&Ada and saw my first Spyderco. I thought those were exceptionally ugly knives at the time. Really did. Well, it again didn't take long for me to discover the benefits of Spyderco which led to me ordering my very first Spyderco and then, well I have a Sage 5 LW and a Manix 2 XL, which cover my needs pretty well, I have a Murray Carter Minarai Nakiri and looking to get a Gyuto as well. Two of my closest friends and my brother have been gifted Spydies because I'm convinced that they need quality knives in their lives. And I'm waiting for either the Bodacious to drop in a steel other than S30V (because I already have two of those) or the Gayle Bradley 3 to be released with a compression lock (fingers crossed).
Other than knives, I'm married, mailman is my occupation, we have a cat and will be moving away from a smallish city to a very rural part of our country with almost no cars or civilizational noise, looking forward to that a lot.
And I'm looking forward getting to know you fine people here on the Soyderco forums :)

Hey, thank you :) yeah, I basically walk from mailbox to mailbox, I have a car in which I load and transport my packages and all the mail, basically it's a combination of driving short distances and walking wherever it's better to do so. And yes, you can definitely stay nice and slim in this line of work, I'm maybe a bit on the chubby side, but that's due to my love of food. Today for example I walked about 14 kilometers (about 8 and a half miles I think) and drove about 65 kilometers (40 miles). It's a cool job, the first one I have where waking up going to work doesn't feel like a chore, I really like it :)Doc Dan wrote: ↑Tue Mar 18, 2025 9:16 am

Hello, my name is Dmitry, I don't know English well, so I'm writing with the help of a translator. I'm from Ukraine, but now, due to the war. I live in the United States, I've been into knives all my life, especially folding knives, I've known about spiderco knives for a long time, and even once made a folding knife for myself, with spiderco design elements. And just recently I bought my first spiderco, and of course it's Endura with VG 10. I greet everyone from the bottom of my heart, and I'll be glad to communicate

It's wonderful that we have so many people on this forum from so many different countries and nationalities and races. My wife used to laugh because I've got so many friends from so many different places in real life. But I like to point out that they have all made my life much richer.
