Can someone please explain how the button lock is more lefty-friendly?

Mind you, I haven’t tried a lefty compression lock yet (my lefty Para 2 arrives tomorrow), but it appears that the button is designed to be pressed with the thumb, and would be on the wrong side for a lefty, requiring a compromise in grip.

You're not wrong there; the lock is designed to be operated by the thumb for normal righties. But it is definitely doable to lefty-pinch it using the index finger with the Smock (I own all versions of the Smock except for the 20CV one and the S30V which I originally owned, but later sold). I don't see why the same operating procedure wouldn't work the same with the Sage 6.

I'm sooooooo STOCKED. I'm been asking for a little bit about auto's or assisted blades at the factory. with a history of overcoming challenges, the knife symbolizes precision, resilience, and innovation—qualities that resonate with my own journey. It's a tool that reflects my appreciation for things built to endure and perform under pressure.
Owning the Sage 6 isn’t just about the utility—it’s about celebrating craftsmanship, embracing innovation, and enjoying a piece that aligns with my values of excellence and durability.

I am probably in the minority, but I am not too crazy about Sage series. The blade shape is just wrong for me. Try peeling a mango with sage and then try with UKPK, delica, native, or Leafjumper. There is something about sage’s blade that just does not feel right with me.

The Sage 6 looks fantastic. I'll have to snag one of the Sprints in S90V, with the solid CF.
I used to own the Sage 1, 2, 3, & 5; never got my hands on a Sage 4. I enjoyed the 5 the most, but something about the G10 CF laminate made me sell it eventually. And I haven't given the model a chance since. Been really interested in the LW, and am blown away by how many steel options there are.

I'm just warming up to the compression lock (I recently got my first one), and the button sounds like a good idea.
I like S90V and carbon fiber, so count me in! :smlling-eyes

I am really looking forward to the potentially ambidextrous comp lock and the sage is already a great design
Just one more knife...

I never got a Smock as I can't stand the blade cutout.

The Sage series, however, is one of my favorites, so I am looking forward to trying out the Sage 6.

This will be my first s90v/cf. It’s odd…i like s90v and i like carbon fiber but I’ve just never picked up anything from those sprints, etc. A button lock sage is definitely enough to break that particular ice.

Yes, I am excited.

I am a fan of the Sage platform, size and style. I am also a fan of the S90V CF combo and have a few in this configuration. And I am intrigued by the button lock, so it make sense to try this locking mechanism in a model which does work for me. The Smock wasn't it for number of reasons.

Sage 5 REX 121 was my only Spyderco purchase of '24. This Sage 6 S90V CF will definitely by a purchase if it comes out in '25. Will it be the only one? Time will tell.

As others have stated, I have no doubt both of these will be wildly popular out of the gate... I have every version of every model of Sage released to date & it's my hands down favorite Spyderco EDC knife. I'm in for both new flavors for sure.

Still hoping & praying they release the Salt version in SE at some point. I want an SE sage (w/any steel) something fierce...

Cheers,

John

I was surprised at how many people were willing to over look that aspect of the smock.

I'd be much more inclined to get this sage if I wanted to try a button lock from Spyderco. The sage is a very nice folder....I gifted a few of the original Sage 1 and the handle design is excellent for the size.
May you find peace in this life and the next.

Could you elaborate further?

I am normally not really interested in such small folders, but the Sage is one I actually still am. To me it really looks like as if it does right what the Para 3 does wrong (for me!)

Now I am probably also in a minority in that I prefer a blade with a straighter edge and then a belly just towards the tip over a continuous curve in the edge (ideal for me is the Stretch with its long completely straight edge section starting right at the heel)
So regarding this aspect the Sage actually looks like NOT being 100% what I like - BUT: The LeafJumper and Native appear to have a rather similar blade profile? (While the Delica comes closer to what I prefer)

Or did you refer to a completely different aspect of their blade shapes?
Top three going by pocket-time (update April 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10), Chaparral SE (CTS XHP)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Endela SE (K390)

Gotta be honest... button locks do not interest me. I like the compression lock as it is, personally.

That said, a CF/S90V Sage is a good thing, even if I'm not a fan of the lock.

NP. Told ya I like the Sage series.

I'm fairly certain they aren't going to be able to make them fast enough for a while & the S90V Sprint will sell out faster than any previous Sage model... Can't wait to see.

I am super excited and hope this is a trend that floats to other compression lock models. I prefer the Sage 5 over the other versions. This just might make me like the 6 more.
