Sage 6, WHO'S EXCITED

#1

Post by nerdlock »

All right, I'll be the first to admit I'm not necessarily the biggest fan of the Sage series. I only have one Sage, the Sage 2 framelock. There's just something weirding me out about the overall curves and shape of the knife. It's just me though.

But the button lock on the Sage really blows me away. Being a big fan of the Smock, I really can't believe why there's no more button locks on the lineup. I believe it's the next evolution of the compression lock and definitely makes it more ambidextrous.

So who's excited for this one? Discuss.

Edit- though there's a slight disappointment in me that the 6th iteration isn't a cbbl, but this is good stuff. More button locks please.

I am super excited and hope this is a trend that floats to other compression lock models. I prefer the Sage 5 over the other versions. This just might make me like the 6 more.

Oh wow nice, funny coincidence this discussion somewhat popped up just in the past couple days.

I didn't see button lock coming, but should have, as it's much more popular than the Stop Lock or others than have been breezed over

I don't have a Sage 5, but I agree that if you like the comp lock 5, the button lock 6 is going to massively appeal to you even more.

Oh, interesting. I have really liked the look of the Sage for a while, I just don't have a good reason to get one at this point, my Endura has me covered.

One more thing that I realized, the button lock essentially makes the Sage 6 a defacto lefty compression lock. Win win! 😜

I've actually been carrying a Smock the past few days and haven't switched it out yet because of the button lock. It's just so comfortable and convenient to use. I'll definitely be getting a Sage 6 as well.

BladesWeLove has been making button lock PM2's using the left hand models for years now. They call them "PM2 Ultra." I really think that when, or if, Spyderco produces their own version of a button compression lock PM2, it's going to be a massive success.

I don't own a button lock Spyderco (yet). Any issues with accidentally pressing the button while in use and folding the knife inadvertently?

Also: I'm hoping the button lock does not lock the blade closed? I have a Milwaukee utility knife with a button lock, and get irritated having to press the button to open it.

I wonder if this will have the same double detent setup as the smock, and if the sage 5 blades are swappable with it.

IMO it needs to be a CQI change for the entire compression lock lineup. This will solve my only real gripe with this lock, and as long as they keep the detent strong it'll be perfect for my needs. The only other lock I'd prefer over it is the Plunge Lock but wishing for that in common models is a pipe dream.

It's essentially a lefty comp lock, so I doubt it. The detent hole and track would be on the other side of the blade.

The detent and the lock face would be opposite of where they need to be.

What's a Plunge Lock? Somehow that is one I'm not familiar with.

Im in for the S90V Sprint for sure. I'm glad to see Spyderco hasn't forgotten about the best Super Steel ever made. Can't wait.

It's the current lock on the automatic knives, Autonomy 1 and 2. As much as I like thumb holes I would trade them all for automatics that used that lock design.

I am glad there's finally a new Sage coming! As i have never been a steel nut i was less than happy with the endless da capo's of the Sage 5, wishing they'd move on already :)

I never liked the smock because of its terrible ergos, and the fact that the button compression lock made the handle distance to the cutting edge twice as long as it would be on a normal knife. The Sage 6 looks like it keeps the exact same shape as the other sages, so that's interesting

The CF/S90V might just dethrone my Mordax for pocket time.

So much more to love over the Smock: real CF, S90V, useable Spyder hole and full flat grind!

Is the Sage 6 on bearings, I don’t own any Sage’s yet?

I think the Sage 6 will be great, and I’m looking forward to it.

But I am a little disappointed that it won’t be hosting Spyderco’s excellent ball-bearing lock, at least not yet. Maybe the Sage 7?
