finally got a hold of the bodyguard 2. I have never felt a pocket pistol that fits my hand so well. I'm blown away. Excited to try it at the range!

Reminds me of the Goldwater campaign in 1964.

Not sure if your new pistol is +P rated or not? You should give some Underwood 90gr. Xtreme Penetrators a look, they have them in standard pressure and +P. These Lehigh copper bullets are no joke!

These standard pressure rounds are torches, 1100 fps. muzzle velocity and 242 ft. lbs of muzzle energy, good stuff!

Tried sighting in my red dot this morning.
Had previously bore sighted in the living room
on a cow about 200 yards away.
It proved to be very close.

My preferred sighting target stand
is the old Army point blank range
of 1000 inches, nearly 28 yards.

The modestly priced Crimson Trace red dot
is four minutes of angle, zero magnification
and obfuscated the 2-inch bullseye
on my favorite targets.
Or it could be my cataract.

One barely perceptible click
on the diminutive adjusting screws
moves the dot one inch at 100 yards.
No wonder Crooks missed.

I chased zero around on semi
until it was a waste of ammo.
At my age that does not take long.

But I did once again press into service
the venerable ClipiTool Standard as an armorer tool.

Image

The result was that I am not a fan of red dots.
I am glad that I did not buy a more expensive one.
Dim lighting or a close in running target
is probably their strong point.
They have their place and this one
will be fine as a barbecue binary blaster.

One trick I discovered was by accident.
I taped a second target over the first.
Then wanted yet a third fresh target
but forgot to carry one with me downrange.
I simply shifted one target over the other
until no bullet holes went through both targets.
Voila! Which is french for "How about that sh*t!"

Image

Full disclosure: I cropped out all the shots that were wide.

If you have an astigmatism it can def trip you up. I prefer 2MOA on rifles and larger MOA on pistol mounted red dots.

I have a slight astigmatism and not all brands of red dots are equal. Some are much crisper than others.

You could also try a 1x prism. The ones from primary arms are great optics.

In addition to a cataract
I too have had astigmatism since age 14,
though for reasons I do not understand
I see better without my glasses now than with them
and passed my last drivers license eye test
and no longer have a restricted license.
And of course, presbyopia since age 40
so I still use the bifocal portion or reading glasses for fine print.

One advantage of a red dot on a pistol is
I do not have to try and focus on the blurry front sight.
Ppresbyopia is no longer a problem.
That floating red dot is in focus.
The red dot on my Kimber R7 Mako pistol makes sense
in defensive, close range dimly lit situations.

I have been acquiring handguns that are good for aging hands. My most recent addition, following a sell-off of three pistols, is a Glock Gen5 17L. This is the long-slide variant with a 6.02” barrel. A relatively light trigger pull, and gentle recoil, were two significant goals, for aging hands, with the longer sight radius being nice for aging eyes.

The pistols I sold were Third-Generation S&W compact 9mm autos, Models 3913 TSW, 3913 NL, and 3914 LS. Compact Nines, as a class, are snappy and harsh for their size, and, while I have liked DA/SA trigger systems, since my first SIG in the early Nineties, the second knuckles of my index fingers are now vexed by long-stroke double-action trigger-pulling. I did myself no favors by loving big-bore DA revolvers, back in the Eighties. The first chicken to come home to roost was my right thumb, hand, and wrist becoming sensitive to .40 S&W recoil, by age fifty. In late 2015, at age 54, when my then-chief OK’ed 9mm to again be an authorized duty pistol cartridge, I retired my SIG P229, and transitioned to a 9mm Glock Gen4 G17, which I dubbed my “Orthopedic pistol.”

I retired in 2018, and gradually gravitated toward mostly carrying medium-frame DA revolvers. That worked well, until DA triggers started aggravating my index fingers, just recently. I do not plan a big sell-off of DA revolvers, but, I should carry that with which I can comfortably train. Not complaining; just is what it is. Lfe is good.

The first time I saw a reticle with a chevron I was puzzled.
Now I realize why as explained below at Scope University.

Image

The ACSS Holosun features a center chevron that attracts the eye quickly yet provides an infinitely small aiming point at the tip which never obscures the target like a superimposed dot does. Small dots underneath act as bullet compensation holdovers

I am a fan of BDC (Bullet Drop Compensating) scopes. Win, win.

I was thinking today....I never did show you guys how the tiny S&W Bodyguard 2 fits my grip.

Obviously the 10 rd mag is gonna be a 3 finger grip for me, but with the full 12 rd mag it's very comfortable.

The smallest I'll carry now is a J frame or my Glock 27 which seems almost too small for my hands. Vivi, that Bodyguard looks small in those paws of yours. I bet it carries really nice. The selection of rifles and pistols available is so much better than the 70's and 80's. The ammo selection is a lot better too. I suppose it's probably just as well I'm not rich.

Ordered my first gun since 2019 today. Prices recently have gotten really interesting and I finally snagged a full size Glock 22 .40. It’s a police trade-in and I already have the smaller 23 and 27 in the same caliber. I’ve enjoyed shooting the round and am looking forward to an actual full size pistol. Should make a fine truck gun.

Glock 22's are pretty good all around pistols. They make great truck and house guns and IMO are fine outdoors hiking/camping companions too. I finally got a 22 after I found out the Gen 5 had been beefed up . I started out with the 23 way back when it was first introduced and all these years later I still have not had a malfunction with it. As long as you don't limp wrist them Glocks will keep going. Any ammo I have tried is fine and with real Glock mags I can feel comfortable it will work when needed. I never had that sort of luck with other auto pistols and remember always having to mark numbers on my different mags because some were reliable and some were not. If I need something other than a 15 round 40 cal I'm in trouble. The old G 23 now has a sig 357 bbl and still hasn't ever malfunctioned.

One thing I've always hated about polymer autos is how over top the grip texturing is. Having a replica of 80 grit sandpaper rubbing against my waist gets old fast.

So after test driving a new pistol I always take some sandpaper to the stippling.

Image

Finally got around to doing the BG2 today. Even though the texture on the flats of the grip was mellowed out VS Shields and M&P series pistols, the front and back, the magazine & slide release, and the safety were all still too aggressive for my tastes.

Image

Much more comfortable to EDC now.
May you find peace in this life and the next.

Got to show you this, $24.00 for 50 round boxes of HST’s is a smoking deal on arguably the best defensive round brand on the market!

This has been bugging me.
Maybe you can help me out.

In a Jesse Stone TV movie
I think it was Death in Paradise
"Suitcase" is sighting in a rifle.
Jesse (Tom Selleck) is spotting for him.

The rifle and scope are pointing toward the camera.
It looks to me like the scope is rotated
so that the windage knob is on top
and the elevation knob is on the left hand side.

Also, what is the purpose of the appendage?

And, doesn't it have turrets that can be turned for adjustments?
"Suitcase" is using a cartridge rim to turn a screw.
When Jesse tells him two clicks to the left,
"Suitcase" turns the screw on the upper turret.

On second thought,
I think they mounted it backwards.
What makes it even more curious is
Tom Selleck is a firearms enthusiast
and you think he would have had them sort it out.
