How do you go about getting a mystery box? I feel like I’m missing out and way late to the game here. Help hahaha.
It's really a gamble so if/when it happens again you better have an open mind and be ready for disappointment, especially if you spend a lot of time looking at what everyone else got because it's inevitable that someone else will get a combo of knives that you wish you got and you'll feel cheated. I got 4 knives in mine, two were desirable and two were kinda ehhhh. I definitely saw others getting a mix that I wish I had gotten. I think in a perfect world if I had my pick to just buy outright $400 of exactly what 2nds I wanted I think I'd do that before I took a gamble on a mystery box again because two of the ones I got I don't think I would have bought if I had the choice.

Same experience, got 3 knives for $250, all fine knives but none of the knives I was hoping for (anything 15V, 4V, S90V, Cruwear, Shaman, Manix XL, Lil Native, Sage and a bunch more). Sold one for the sticker price, gave one away and put one in my glove box, broke about even.
I just wanted to add the best thing about the box is that beyond traveling to Golden for the in person sale, it is the only way to buy a second spirt or exclusive from Spyderco.
I don’t think I would buy one again, would rather spend the on seconds that you know what you get, but if there is nothing else I want I would be tempted on a box.

The system worked great. The price tags are on the knives and you get at least what the price of the box was. I don’t think you can ask for anything else.
Leaving the tags on the knives was great, shows you got what you paid for. While the kitchen knives are fairly common in the boxes this time and might be an unexpected surprise to some, it fits in the box description.
The only thing I could negatively comment on is the $400 premium box. The description implied a premium high end knife would be included, something that would not be in the basic $250 box. At least that’s how I read it. From what I have seen that does not always seem to hold true, here is the last $400 box I saw, I think any of those knives could also be in a $250 box:

Otherwise beyond that I think Spyderco is doing an amazing job. I got the basic box so the issue will not affect me. Very grateful to have access to these knives. I am excited to see the Fat Carbon M4 knives in some boxes, its a great knife to find in one of your the boxes.
I would agree with that. I would have expected a more premium knives in those boxes. Maybe not a full on Taichung Titanium but almost.
But that is also why I would not be interested in a mystery box.
I think one way or another the difference between what Spyderco will pick for you and general expectations will narrow down. And Spyderco will keep selling mystery boxes.
As much as I am not intestested to buy them, I can see why people would love the thrill.
This is not like most or any one of us here is ever rational about knife buying.

Yes, they are all seconds. Spyderco seconds are an extremely good value for what you get as a Spyderco second is generally still an extremely good knife with minimal if any issues. If you are able to, go to the sale in November, awesome experience from what I have heard. Otherwise, the mystery box is the only opportunity for people like me who can't attend to get seconds spirt and exclusive runs, they tend to sell out in just a few minutes they are so popular.
