Dragonfly Emerson
Dragonfly Emerson
Hi all I have a question that hopefully won’t come across as dumb. I have a thing for Spydercos with the saber grind and the dragonfly with the Emerson opener happens to have one. The question is can I draw the knife from my pocket when clipped without using the opener?
Re: Dragonfly Emerson
I don't have a DF2 with an Emerson opener but do have both a Delica & Endura with Emerson openers (as well as a Karahawk, Matriarch with Emerson opener, and P'kal—all knives with the "wave" feature) & I can definitively state that it's possible to draw them without deploying the blade. You just have to be a little more deliberate when pulling the knife out of your pocket to make sure the Emerson opener doesn't catch on the pocket hem... it helps to keep your index finger on top of the spine of the blade (over the opener) to make sure it doesn't accidentally deploy the blade.
Re: Dragonfly Emerson
That makes sense, thanks for the reply.

Yep when you pull it up and out, pull away from the edge of your pocket (Forwards). When you want it to open draw it back towards the edge of the pocket. You can also put a finger on the spine of the blade to keep it from opening, just be careful you don't pull super fast and hook the catch hard (the hook will win, and the back of the tip will probably scratch your finger when it opens).

Re: Dragonfly Emerson
Both responses so far are good answers. I also tend to twist the knife inward (clockwise, for right handed carry) when drawing it, while pushing the pocket outward. Allows the wave opener to come out in the space created.
As previously mentioned, a very deliberate action.
