Re: CTS-PD#1 Burgundy Sprint Run Spydies In Stk
I'm also waiting for the Police, or rather delaying my decision until the Police is available. If any, that's the one.
It could actually be interesting to get some forum opinions on this. I don't really need a Police for what it offers in features, it's more that I may want to own it for its iconic status and see if I can somehow shoehorn it into some kind of use.
For me, a knife of this size would normally fit best into outdoor use or house / property maintenance and improvement projects (i.e. harder work use in a non-public setting).
For outdoor use I feel there are better options (lighter and less prone to corrosion) so that leaves me with a somewhat small use case for a rather fancy knife.
By writing this "out loud" it also hits me that for such a narrow use case, the k390 that is currently 10% off at Lamnia's July 4th sale would serve me just as well.
The PD1 sprint looks a bit cooler though, which does matter a little bit when I'm mostly buying for its historic significance, it should hold its value better but I'm not expecting to sell so that barely makes a dent in my decision making. Lastly there's versatility. If I really connect with this model, the more corrosion resistant coated PD1 would probably fare better in the other environments I typically carry a folding knife.

Nice to finally get an Endura in Mastiffwear. Thought we'd see a cruwear Endura after the cruwear Delica but it never happened.

Re: CTS-PD#1 Burgundy Sprint Run Spydies In Stk
The Police is surprisingly light and carryable. It works real well as an impromptu kitchen knife plus handles well pretty much any task I ever had to do with it. I had my K390 P4 reground though, to about 0,3mm BTE
K390 is awesome indeed, though I don't have any experience with Spyderco CruWear to compare them directly (though I do have some CruWear from Benchmade and that's also a really nice steel).
I myself am definitely grabbing that burgundy+black P4 and S2LWXL. And probably the K390 S2LWXL as well

In my experience CruWear is vastly more corrosion resistant than K390. The Police is a magnificent knife that is surprisingly not a pocket hog for such a significant blade length. I have a P4 LW K390 SE and it is fantastic, but it practically implodes with corrosion when I use it outdoor at work (in the tropics mind you so your mileage may vary corrosion wise). I would have preferred a PD1 in SE, but the P4 is my first choice out of all the Sprint PD1 models. I reckon you’ll find a lot of uses for it once you’ve had it in hand for a week or so.aicolainen wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 2:11 amI'm also waiting for the Police, or rather delaying my decision until the Police is available. If you're considering getting a Police 4 primarily for its "iconic" status (i.e., as an example of the design for posterity's sake), you might as well avoid Sprint FOMO & save yourself a bit of money & grab the standard VG10 model. I've used mine for around-the-house tasks & while camping & I find it's perfectly decent for the tasks I need a folder for outdoors: some carving/whittling of mostly softer woods like fir, cedar & pine, occasional food prep/protein processing. Unless your niche use for it will be as a full-time replacement for a fixed-blade that you will thump on, VG10 will be more than fine.aicolainen wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 2:11 amIt could actually be interesting to get some forum opinions on this. All that said, the upcoming sprint does look really cool. I'd grab the Police 4 sprint if I didn't already have the perfectly serviceable (for my uses) standard version. I do plan on getting at least the Delica & Endura sprints, though.

I keep hearing that. It's partly why I'm slowly warming up to the idea of getting one.
another endorsement of its carriability. And yeah, not exactly the tropics around here, but not all that dry either. I think you have convinced me to stay away from the k390 P4 for now.JoviAl wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 5:34 amIn my experience CruWear is vastly more corrosion resistant than K390. I really enjoy your reviews, so your advices does carry some weight.
Just to be clear though, I do want to use my iconic knives, so it's not intended to just be sock drawer fill or decoration for the fireplace. But for someone who regularly carry a DF2 as my main EDC, the size will take some getting used to, and I need some time to see where it will best fit into my use.
I do fully agree with regards to the FOMO part. I really try to stay away from sprints exactly because the added frustration is usually not worth it for a simple user like myself. But it's also true that I have accumulated quite a few VG-10 knives, so while not being bad at all, I do like to diversify if I can and if it makes sense. I wrote somewhere on this forum that I may choose to get the PD1 P4 (it does seem to be a steel that makes sense in a large user knife), but only if the price makes sense and I can buy it in my own pace without constantly monitoring the sites I usually buy from. I'm sticking to my words. If I miss out that's OK, I'll just fall back to keeping an eye on the domestic secondary market. It's a very slow marketplace, but some interesting Spydercos pop up from time to time. The nice thing about getting a P4 is that I'm doing it just for the fun so I'm in no hurry at all.
Re: CTS-PD#1 Burgundy Sprint Run Spydies In Stk
Hopefully the Stretch2XL gets released before I make an impulse buy and drain the knife fund
Re: CTS-PD#1 Burgundy Sprint Run Spydies In Stk
Reasonable approach, and very similar to mine. I'm happy with my K390 P4LW* so I'm not that worried about getting the PD#1 and as the K390 S2LWXL is on the horizon as well I won't cry if I miss the PD#1 too, if it happens great, if not, well, c'est la vie
Though I do agree it's a killer combo both visually and mechanically, so hope I do get to catch one of 'em at least ^^
* not really many problems with rust in central Europe, even when hiking etc, though my sweat isn't very corrosive, the knife just has a nice patina from all the kitchen use and that would be it :)

Re: CTS-PD#1 Burgundy Sprint Run Spydies In Stk
I hike and do yard work with my police 4 lw k390, sweating all over the knife for hours at a time. I rarely clean it afterwards. I guess my sweat isn't corrosive or I'd be seeing a lot of issues judging by all the complaints of corrosion.

K390 isn’t as bad as rex45 and 15v for some reason. I use my k390 Enuff 2 in the kitchen all the time.

I came close to giving in when I saw KJ+ had the Bodacious for $180. Thankfully they’re out of stock…
It’s going to be really difficult if they release the K390 Stretch around the same time
