what a strange reveal...

there was so much fuss about 15v making a strong showing for reveal 15 and there's none of it. i wonder what happened there.

i think the s2xl is going to be my first k390. i've been enjoying the salt version. it's a great design.

spy27 is finally getting some more love, which is cool, but it's usually more expensive than steels with similar qualities, so i'm not sure i'll be partaking. i thought about holding out for this military 2, but grabbed a cruwear micarta version instead. i've wanted a g10 spy27 manix for years, but it took way too long to materialize and i'm pretty set on manixes. maybe a sage 5...? i've wanted one for a while and don't have one yet.

i love the look of the pd#1 family. i've wanted this color combo for years also. unfortunately, spyderco's recent announcement in changes to the opsfocus program, discontinuing the discount for sprint runs, means they are going to likely be out of reach now, just like the spymyto that was announced before the change but not released until after it was implemented.

and where is the new coating...? this reveal has some cool stuff in it, but it's extremely left field compared to the messaging we've seen. at least the k390 s2xl is coming. hoping for a m2lw salt with the new coating soon.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

Left field can be fun.
There were quite a few things here that I didn't expect. I like that. At best there's maybe one or two that I might end up buying, so it wasn't a big hit with me, but my sock drawer is pretty stuffed. Any new release have to really hit home for me to bother shoving another knife in there.

Also I haven't jumped on the 15V train yet. It gets much praise, so I'm sure it's good stuff, I'm just afraid it's more than I can stomach when it comes to sharpening.
If the BBB collab appeals to me when it's revealed/released, I'll get that one though.

Nothing in 15 really exciting for me except the PE Temperance. I am patiently waiting for the Spy27 Chief and the Magnacut UKPK to hit the shelves.

It wasn’t really more difficult than K390.

I have no interest in a an 8Cr13MoV Tenacious, but I would certainly love one with a titanium frame lock. If the blade from M4 Tenacious model can be swapped out for the 8Cr13MoV blade on the upcoming titanium model, I might just have to spend about $300 to frankenstein me up a monster of a Tenacious. I guess I could go with S35VN instead of the M4 and save, like, twenty bucks, but I'd happily pay that much more for M4.

I would’ve got this one if they had made the blade 14C28N. Been waiting to see what a Spyderco heat treat could do with that metal. Plus the CQI treatment would only improve it.

Sage 5 in Spy27 will be a must have - just going to have to decide if I want G10 or FRN.

Temperance in Cru-wear will be given serious consideration - I regret getting rid of my original Temperance.

Also slightly interested in the Manbug in Micromelt.

...No matter the reason, it's nice to see the Sage get more attention. I have never owned or tried one, and it's a model I sometimes forget about entirely, and that's a shame because it really seem to be one of the better CL offerings. Hopefully these new variations will bring it out in the spotlight, where I think it deserves to be.
Personally I've lost much of my initial interest in comp. lock knives, but at the same time I feel like the Sage deserves a chance. Might flip one of my P3s to buy a Sage one of these days.

I've an odd relationship with the Sage 5 LW (I own other Sages but don't carry them). Been carrying a Sage 5 LW in M4 recently. You say it's a model you sometimes forget about, and IMO that's because there's nothing terribly memorable about the knife. It does everything well (except provide excitement). Other than not being terribly compact, there's nothing to criticize. I also have never developed any great fondness for it. It's a very well-designed, well-behaved, high-quality, dependable, reliable, "vanilla" knife. A great knife to take to work. Am I going to buy it in Rex 121? Yes!

So what we're looking at here is an unexciting, unremarkable, even forgettable knife... and we're both about to get one. No wonder I end up with too many Spydercos :zany

So far didn't have a chance to try out SPY27 as I was waiting for something 3,5"+. First I was excited for the Native Chief LW but the Military 2 is much more up my alley, so can't wait for the M2 SPY27!

Also love my K390, so the Stretch XL LW K390 is a must.

Last are the big blades in PD#1 - if luck permits, I'll get both the Stretch XL and the Police 4 LW in that combo. Beautiful colors and great model+steel combo

Some cool new variants for sure. Definitely going to scoop up the R.I.L. Tenacious. However I was really hoping for a completely new model or two, not just variants of previous designs.
The Techno 3 is a new model, so there’s one.
I guess you got me there. But a Techno 3 is not exactly what I had in mind. Something new without a 2 or 3 behind the name would be my preference.

Agreed. Strange reveal; no 15v; seemingly out of no where REX 121! and the very cool wine/burgundy and black combo for the micro melt.pd 1. Is it supposed to be another brand of cruwear? (thats what I mean seemingly out of nowhere... I hadn't heard / read anything in the forum for example, granted Im not here everyday anymore.)

Very excited and somewhat surprised it took so long for spyderco to make rex 121. but apparently it has its nuances. (certainly entertaining/informative to hear about and discuss).

for those forum members that have clout with spyderco brass, would it not be cool if they published the hardness of their steels? honestly If it were up to me Id like the heat treatments too, but I can see how that may give away "trade secrets".

I felt somewhat betrayed that after anticipating the spymyto for what seems like over a year, surprise we're not honoring the opfocus discount. I felt the sting of having to purchase elsewhere. I'll get over it.

very excited about the rex 121.

out of curiosity, I can not find the magnacut pm2 yellow and black on the website. not even "coming soon". now, I know that the desktop website varies wildly from the mobile/cell website, but still, don't see it on either.

Am I going to buy it in Rex 121? Yes!
[/quote]

I've been eyeing the maxamet sage, but I live on an island and wouldn't want the blade all rusty and "patina'd" (excuse the poetic license). never held a sage. very curious, but cannot resist the opportunity to own the current champ in edge retention. super surprised it did not come out as a mule first. just surprise here it is in the next reveal. I am still new enough to spyderco to ask is this common: not all of the previous new stuff (ie bodacious, magnacut pm2 yellow/black) are out/available and there's a new reveal. does spyderco stagger this way often? i guess it doesn't really matter. they are feeding our steel curiosity beautifully, right? i am salivating over the rex 121.

(how's the manix in magnacut, you gotta be happy.) I love the spymyto. Lionsteel craftsmanship is impeccable. (these last two models were on the youtube video when eric was plugging reveal 15, but may not actually be part of reveal 15. for those who are sticklers about forum topics, I think there is an arguable overlap in the topics)

this is not uncommon. typically, when a new reveal is posted, the new items are on the new items page and items from previous reveals are removed. if those items haven't been released yet, they disappear into limbo until they are released. i'm sure it's just an oversight.

To find certain items within the Spyderco website, your best option is to do a Google Search (not a search within the Spyderco website) because you get better results.

For instance, within Google search (just type in the stuff within the quotes and exclude the quotation marks): “spyderco para military magnacut site:spyderco.com”

Do you think that some of these "limbo" knives were conceived when that particular model was selling well, and sales eventually declined, reducing the incentive to squander production capability on something that might not sell quickly? I don't have sufficient knowledge to know, but it seems like a plausible explanation.

I'm really happy with this Reveal. Most of the knives don't appeal to me. Several are very nice, but I already have something close. And there's ONE that I REALLY want. That's PERFECT. With only one knife that I really want, I'll get it, use it, and not be distracted by anything else.

Like many others, I was looking forward to some 15V, specifically the Manix 2 LW. But if I have to wait, that's ok. Tonight I pulled my M2LW Magnacut out of the drawer. Maybe I'll fall in love with it, and be able to save my cash when the 15V model comes around.
