Please note I don’t have any issues with Lionsteel or other Maniago makers, I’m just not a fan of how different the T3 will look compared to its siblings. There’s a loss of continuity there. Won’t stop me from buying one…
It's the flipper only / lack of opening hole that is the crucial loss of continuity for me and makes this version pretty much irrelevant, but that's a feature that carries over from the mouse 3 if I remember correctly, so I guess it's true to its origin in that regard. Also not a fan of milled clips, but that alone wouldn't stop me from buying a knife.
The Mouse 2 is the current pinnacle of the mouse series IMO. I feel like some of the magic of the M2 was lost in translation and didn't quite carry over to the production model, so the T2 didn't turn out quite as I hoped. It's OK, my titanium frame lock phase was mostly behind me even before I got my hands on the T2, and by this point I haven't been tempted by one in several years. I keep hanging on to the T2, but I should probably let it go.
What are the features you miss from the custom techno 2?
When you ask me so many years later, I’m not exactly sure :)
I remember being a bit disappointed with Spyderco’s priorities when it came to clip placement vs lanyard hole, but looking at it now it’s not like the custom is obviously better.
I appreciated that the blade stock was made thinner than on the T1, but if I remember correctly the titanium slabs were made thicker, so nothing was gained in terms of carry comfort. Again, I don’t know if this is a departure from the custom, but I was somewhat let down by this choice.
In reality they may not be all that different. The pictures of the mouse 2 gave off some impressions and expectations and those weren’t quite met. It might not be Spyderco’s doing, but rather my brain’s interpretation of the pictures.
I do think the simple spring clip and blue barrel spacers on the custom are more fitting for the design than the wire clip and zombie green spacers, but those are minor nitpicks. As far as existing Spyderco clips go, the wire clip was definitely the right choice.
