Hey Wrdrght,

That's a good description. The new shape added the fourth group. Reverse Grip Edge In (RGEI).

Hi TwinBoy's,

the shape is the same as the G-10 version.

sal
I am lost here. The fourth group ? I know what RGEI is but how could a slightly dropped spine near the tip add that ? Sorry Sal, I just want to understand.

Not to speak for Sal, but I think that was a typo and he meant fourth grip.

Hi Ramzar,

Steel is confirmed as VG-10 for production.

I spoke with Eric on this and afeter getting quotes on costs, they decided that the model is still expensive, even with FRN scales. VG-10 and lower margins will being it to market at a lower cost. S30V would have brought the cost much higher.

The model won't be revealed until fall due to low production monthly quantities. I guess we'll just have to be patient.

Thank You for the Update.

I hope it’s priced to move (< $150) beyond a first batch.

Currently, there are two Compression Lock folders with FRN: Para3 BD1N (USA) for $115.50 and Sage5 S30V (Taichung) for $141.05.

But still only one that is (almost) linerless, right?

Sorry if I missed that, but that Lil Temperance LW WILL feature liners, correct?
Top three going by pocket-time (update April 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10), Chaparral SE (CTS XHP)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Endela SE (K390)

Not a thing wrong with VG10 and a lot of things right. If people want a “better” LT3 steel, they gotta get skin in the game and buy the “affordable” package rather than let others make a follow-up possible.

I think the difference may come from knives built for utility vs a knife built to tolerate self defense use. Stouter blade, lock tolerances, etc. I don't think it's fair to compare it to a regular compression lock frn folder. This should be a little tank of a knife. Country of origin isn't the same which does make a difference as well.

Thanks, Sal!

I actually do like linerless Spydies (I carry and use the Stretch XL all the time), but imho this particular model looks like overall a perfect and consistent package WITH liners.

I'm late to the party but noticed no photos...so...here...

I like it lots, lots, but I'm done with VG-10, so I'll be sitting this one out. Maybe a sprint will appear with a super-er super steel.

Spyderco can sell me big-handle, 2-3" blade, compression lock knives all day. The Para 3 and Sage 5 lightweights are so good that I'd probably pick one of these up in VG-10, especially if it keeps the price down. I'd also be interested in any sprint runs later as Bolster said.

With VG-10 & FRN, even with “nested skeletonized liners” and made in Japan I don’t see why it should be priced much more than the Taichung-made Sage5 with S30V & FRN at $141.05.

The only reason i see it above that price point is simple the last g10 was also way above the price of similar models so i can only guess but maybe it is all the extra work they put in to designing it that needs to come out from somewhere? I really get the idea that for some reason the lil temperance is never an easy model to make Sal himself said they made so many plastic models before they could even start on thinking about a model in steel. So If the cost of designing is that high the price will also be higher? But i hope i am wrong because besides extra Manixes and custom scales its nearly the only thing on my wishlist for the moment. :grin-sweat

I have no idea what it will actually cost. It may very well be priced as you say. But I wouldn't assume that it would be priced similarly to non self defense rated knives with different countries of origin either.

It may have thicker/ heavier duty blade stock, pivot, stop pin, liners, and stronger lock tolerances. I think it will be FRN but heavy duty. Much more so than the sage or para3 I'd imagine. And only Spyderco knows what hidden costs are associated with country of origin. But I'm sure there are some.

Maybe I'm under thinking this but it seems like the only difference here is FRN vs G10 scales? Didn't the G10 have nested skeletonized liners? If the only difference is scale material, I wouldn't expect much difference in strength or weight.

Lil' Temperance3 S30V & G-10 (Japan) from 2017 was $191.97 I believe and it had nested stainless steel liners.
