Speaking as probably the biggest LT3 fan on these forums... this unofficial reveal has me really stoked! The original LT3 is a folder that really melts into my hand, so I'm excited to feel how the contoured FRN scales on this LW version are in use.

I think it will be a hidden gem. I will most probably buy it, even if it's prohibitively expensive. Despite that I hope for it to be reasonably priced so that "general public" can see what a great knife it's gonna be; no choil, no finger grooves, excellent ergonomics; a small, but capable tank of a knife.

I should have a production piece in the next few weeks. I'll let you know.

Any fresh details on the production piece? S30V? This one is on my radar. I’ve been contemplating tracking down one of the G10 models, but with this just around the corner I may hold off. Digging the handle forward design.

DLT Trading still has new ones. $211. You missed out when they were discontinued and places were selling them for around $130.

I have a production piece in hand. Naturally I'm biased, but this is a special project of mine that I've been refining and developing for the past 22 years. I hand carved the first model in wood back at the turn of the century. We've made many variations over the ears, but I think the one I have is probably ultimately as close to what I was after.

Hey Taktikool,

This model is not really a "handle forward" design. The "Handle forward" design is for lock-backs to hide the "kick" area and make the area part of the handle. This model is a Compression Lock and doesn't have a "kick" so it's easier to bring the edge closer to the handle.

The piece I have is VG-10 Plain edge. As I understand, that's the steel used in production. I'm not sure where the future will go. I just approved of the serrated version today, but it will be a while before they come start coming in. Production is limited, it's not an easy piece to make. So they'll be coming in smaller monthly shipments.

It will still be a while before it's revealed and shipping begins.

Sample was VG-10, but as I understand, production is S30V.

Hi Sal,

Previously you mentioned the regular production model will have S30V not VG-10?!

Hi Ramzar,

That's what I thought. So it's kinda still up in the air until next week. I just received this piece as I was leaving the office so I didn't have time to investigate.

As I remember (Keeping in mind that I'm getting old) The first sample that I approved of was made with VG-10, but the production would be S30V. When the first small shipment came in, I was given this piece as I wanted to use one for the long weekend. I don't know if this piece is the original sample that I had earlier, or if it came from the shipment and I won't know until next week. I'll find out and let you know.

I brought it up in the discussion, because I've been working on this for a long time, was excited to get a piece I can actually use (have to be gentle with early samples for photos) and thought to share. I was pleased to see ZuluDelta show up as he's always had a kind bend to the model. As MyelinSheath mentioned, it's a capable tank of a knife. The FRN will also make it more affordable.

Haven't used a Lil Temp since the 2000's when I had a leaf shaped version in green G10. This thread makes me want to try out the 3.

This is an interesting model. I may not jump on it right away, but given its robustness, a steel like Cruwear would fit that line of design. However if one goes for a stainless steel, then I would naively think that VG10 is a better choice than S30V. The obvious elephant in the room would be MagnaCut, but I understand that such an option might only come a lot later.

Hey, Sal. As the model is in the MBC category, can we safely assume it will be lined?

I prefer VG10 for its resharpening qualities and characteristics but also hope that would reflect a lower price than s30v. On my radar is Micro Jimbo, Lil P’Kal, and this. I do want an Ayoob but my tastes have gravitated towards smaller knives. My only selfish request is to offer the FRN is green as an homage to the original Lil Temp

In another topic Sal mentioned it will be black but if the sales are good enough they are open to give it all colors and steels we want. I also asked for the original color so if we keep it in the public eye enough it could be the first color it comes in.
The sales of the black one on the other hand will hopefully be good enough. If the price is reasonable i will pick one up for sure. But we do not much about that yet so its all the waiting game now. I do hope i can get one because i skipped the last generation for its price since it costed almost the same as 2 manix 2's for me. So i hope the Frn handle will save the day for me.

I only wish they go back to the original blade shape, pointier than it is now. Green FRN would be a bonus.

I doubt the shape will change from the G10 LT3, which was effectively Sal’s prototype for the FRN version we’re talking about. I think he expects us to discover how the new shape is a performance enhancement.

Hey Wrdrght,

That's a good description. The new shape added the fourth grip. Reverse Grip Edge In (RGEI).

Hi TwinBoy's,

the shape is the same as the G-10 version.

I enjoyed the para 3 and sage 5 LW's so much that I can't see not grabbing one of these. Small knife, big handle (and comp lock) all day.
