What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
Good grief LB93, those are cover images. Product reveal or something. Put those in a magazine!

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

Everyone should have at least one of these. Might pick up another yellow one this weekend if I don't try a manbug.
Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
I don't understand how someone could be so focused on one model. For me, I'd rather try out a different model and steel. If I had money to buy a knife every week Id get every new sprint run. That's just my personality I guess. I get bored of stuff and am always looking for something new to try out. (This results in a lot of unfinished projects)

That model works better than any other model for my uses, so I feel guilty spending $230 on a Chinook 4 when I know it'd see less carry time than a Pacific Salt.Paraguy wrote: ↑Wed Apr 13, 2022 8:32 pmI don't understand how someone could be so focused on one model. I still buy new stuff like the Stretch XL and Native Chief sprints and I love them. But they're worse EDC's for me and don't get carried as much.
I've been buying Spydercos close to 20 years now and have tried every model I have ever wanted to try. I've tried most steels knife companies routinely offer, from S7 to BG42 to Maxamet to LC200N and 420HC and Ti and K390 etc. etc.
Which is to say I've figured out what works best for me.
I saw things more like you when I was newer to Spyderco and had a list of 50 models I wanted to try.
edit: This photo puts things into perspective. This was taken maybe around 2009-2010.

Dodo. Yojimbo 1. ATR. Tip up wire clip Para 1. Original UKPK. ZDP189 Delica. CF/BG42 Military. T-Mag. Pikals. Dragonfly (Yes I owned a Dragonfly at one point!). ZDP189 Caly jr. Spot. Rescues. Waved Endura.
And one single Pacific Salt from the very first run.
Since then I sold off or gifted just about all of those Spydercos besides the Spin, Police 3, and Pacific Salt. Many knives have come and go in my collection since, but those three models remain.

No pics, but CTS-204p Military. Man, what a knife.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.
Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

I left the edge and tip slightly thicker on this one because it's a dedicated work knife and will get banged around from time to time.Wartstein wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 10:32 amMy (H1) Pac Salt often serves as a "do it all" tool, more than any of my other folders. So digging, prying, stabbing ... is among the tasks I use it for, and so particularly on this knife I especially like the more robust, sheepsfooty "orgininal" tip.
But if I ever get an H1 Pac Salt in plain edge,I´ll probably try what you did here, Vivi (not with an SE tip though, I think)
...
Yes, the hollow sabre H1 Pac Salt blade (especially when the tip is not modded to being too fine) is really confidence inspiring.
I use mine for digging out throwing knives from the ground (when I miss the target, those can really disappear in the soil), where I frequently hit little rocks and the like, pry apart branches for making kindling and so on.
I am not opposed to "right tool for the right job" but especially in the case of the Pac Salt i also like the concept of a "do it all" - tool and push it a bit to its limits. Just amazing what this thing can do, given the light carry it is...

A bit off topic, but I hope that one day you´ĺl give a Chaparral FRN a real, good try... not your preferred size, I know, but the Manbug isn´t exactly either, right :), and reading you´ll perhaps gonna try that one made me think of the Chap again.
Why the Chap?:
- You always say you never tried a Spyderco backlock without at least a bit up and down play - the Chap could be the one that really has none!
- And: I think you´d love the thin blade stock - and perhaps use it "hard" like I do, and then could confirm - or not! - what I think about it still being more than strong enough.

Still trying to warm up to this guy :

Also carrying the MagnaCut Mule while I'm working on 4 set of scales for mules and helping to build a barn at my parent's house.
Hard to refrain from using the SS Stretch 2 in K390 while working outside

I figured our regulars here on the forum would get a kick out of me having something I'm always crying and whining about haha! I've always liked my Vtoku2 Dragonfly, so I knew I would at least like the model in general. Those are some very spikey serrations though, likely going to try and round those off a little with the Sharpmaker.

It's kinda strange that we don't see more PM2s on this thread. K390 endura for me today.

Salt 2 in pocket and Waterway on my backpack.
Used both, but they were lens shy and never made an appearance in front of the camera.
Perfect day in the mountains with lots of skiing, lunch break around a campfire and amazing weather all day

Spyderco CS came through with new clip screws! They also sent along a new clip, which I’ll save for a rainier day—I don’t mind a few scratches. I’ve had nothing but good experiences with the guys at customer service over the phone.

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
The Matriarch 2 is an absolute monster of a gardening knife. The only way it could be any better, for me, is a Salt steel and a yellow, orange, or bright blue handle. In fact, I'd probably prioritize handle color over steel, since VG-10 is already so good. At $110, the Matriarch 2 is a remarkable bargain for a knife of its capability.
