Because part of the selling point of those fancier knives is a fancier steel. Why they don't offer this steel (and maybe others) in a more user friendly priced model is the real question.
The Native lightweight is (used to be) the only model you can reliably get a variety of high end steels in a user friendly knife. LC200N, S30V, S110V, MAXAMET all production. Not to mention that S90V Native LW at ridiculously low prices pop up all the time.

Is there another Spyderco knife that is available in more production steels than the Native 5?

Maybe either the Military or Delica?

I'm hoping the Para 3 LW platform will catch up!

It's not everyone's cup of tea, but aside from the Native and Delica this is also another knife that could easily get more variety of steels at a good price.

While we're doing this...

I would love to see the FRN Chaparral in a variety of steels...anything that gets shipped to Taiwan should get a run of Chaparrals apportioned from it (half joking). It's ultra slicy and would be a great platform for different steels.
So it goes.

I think it would be cool if XHP could replace the outgoing(?) ZDP-189 in the lineup. Continue to have a high-chromium, low-vanadium carbide steel available for the customers who want that option.

K390 replaces ZDP-189 in the line up already.

I meant currently in production. Millie is only S110V and S30V right?

I forgot the Delica though. LC200N, H-1, VG-10, S30V, K390, Damascus.

Manix BD1N, SPY27, S30V, S110V, MAXAMET
Para3 BD1N, SPY27, S45VN, S110V, MAXAMET

Native 5. LC200N, SPY27, S30V, S90V, S110V, MAXAMET

5 each for Manix and Para3
6 each for the Delica and Native

I guess the native isn't favored as much as I thought after a second look at the catalog.

I would offer that the FRN Chaparral is exactly this. A reasonably priced XHP knife. I guess XHP got a reputation for fanciness due to being used by a lot of custom makers? It just seems like such a good working steel. I think what I'd *really* love to see is an XHP Para 2 or Native 5 priced in the low $100 dollar range. I would be willing to bet that the steel is tough enough to perform well in your beloved SE as well :P
+1
The (FRN) Chap is not just "userfriendly priced" but for me actually one of the best "bangforthebuck" Spydies for what one gets in fit and finish, design and first and foremost performance.
A great opportunity to get and try XHP!
Top three going by pocket-time (update April 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10), Chaparral SE (CTS XHP)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Endela SE (K390)
