That DLC looks incredible! The screws were put back on the reverse side as normal. :D Do you mind saying how much the entire cost was for that DLC job? Please let us know how it holds up over time or if you notice anything noteworthy as it gets used related to rust etc.
It would be great if spyderco would release a black coated police. There have been some fully black ones released long ago. Ideally DLC coating and not the normal black coatings they use for the japan models... Please spyderco make more black coated police models!

Josh has a price breakdown on his website. I had other knives worked on as well. Plus when it comes to building your idea of a perfect knife, what would you pay?Mystery Flavor wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2019 4:00 pmThat DLC looks incredible! Unfirtunately his books are closed for this service, or my P4 would be in the mail rather than in my pocket.
Looks incredible. I wish this was a factory option. I'd be able to carry my favorite design from Sal year round then.

Hi Vivi,
We're going with the light weight so we'll see what the future brings?

I don't want to derail this thread but I would love it if you'd elaborate more on this, especially what about the Shaman you like or feel is odd. I think it's possibly your best design and is right up there with the Military as being close to perfect for what it does. I kind of understand how a design like the Caribbean goes against the grain since choils are all the rage, but everything about the Shaman seems to fit the trends to me. I know we've talked about people's preference for thinner handles but I just don't understand why most people wouldn't prefer a handle like the Shaman...it's barely a 1/16 thicker than a Para 2 and the difference in ergonomics is incredible. I would have every knife I own like the Shaman if I could. I don't believe anyone who says that extra 1/16 thickness in the pocket isn't a fair trade off for the amazing difference it makes in your hand.

Sal,
I have one of those in the mail. I plan to make a short video comparing my Police 3, Police 4 and Police 4 LW once it arrives. I have a feeling it's going to be my favorite version of your design.
I hope sales justify seeing the LW model get a few variations. I'd like a serrated one, and I know you talked about K390 and ZDP being possible...

Hey Vivi, how do you feel about Police 4 as a full Salt knife? With LC200N, ofc.

If they ever make a Police Salt I'd sell off every other folder and replace them with those :DPancake wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2019 11:25 pmHey Vivi, how do you feel about Police 4 as a full Salt knife? With LC200N, ofc.Sal,

Re: Let's take a look inside my Police 4
Well my Police 4 is back in my pocket and the liners seem to be rust free so far. But they did get a green tint to them:
Not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing, but I'll be keeping an eye on them in the future regardless. Fun experiment trying to force a patina on the liners for corrosion resistance.
Still confused why they used a steel that reacts to corrosion worse than the K390 blade, but it's still my favorite design despite this flaw.

Popped it open for a scale swap, figured I'd update this thread.
Re: Let's take a look inside my Police 4
I thought I'd contribute to this thread. I opened my new Factory Seconds P4 a few days ago to clean up the pivots since there was a gritty action when opening and closing the knife. Noticed some rusting already on the right side liners. Left side liners are clean so far.

Re: Let's take a look inside my Police 4
The first time I took my first P4-G10 apart it looked pretty bad, not quite that bad.... I've made it a practice to wipe down my liners with a teflon gun cloth (along with the rest of the hardware (backspacer, etc)). To date it has worked really well for me.

On my user I posted above, I sanded everything a bit with 1000 grit, then coated all the parts in mineral oil. Hope it helps.

Aw it's ok, to be honest, given how humid our climate is, I kinda expected it already... but not too soon like that :D :D I mean, I just received it on the 24th just in time for Christmas haha. Weird though because the other liner was clean.
I scrubbed it with WD-40 and put dollops of Froglube on every metal part, liners, blade, lockbar and spring. Dried the lube and polished everything. I hope it will help keep it at bay. I'll be opening it again after a few weeks and check. If it still persists, I might try your method of patina-ing the liners.

Have any of you thought about acid washing your knives to protect them a bit extra?

Re: Let's take a look inside my Police 4
This thread, to some extent, confirms that my instinctive gravitation to liner-less knives isn't all that unreasonable.
I'm totally noob compared to most here with regards to folders, so it's not something I do based on personal experience, probably just a little OCD combined with years of paranoia developed through my R&D work in marine electronics.
Depends on my intended use of course, but for me, "hard" environments are much more likely than hard use. So, for anything intended for outdoors and sports, my collection pretty much reveals my priorities: Salt > Liner-less > DLC
