If you could change dimensions/sizes on your favorite knives?
Do any of you here have favorite knives, Spyderco or otherwise, that you wish you could alter certain features, such as have the blade thicker or thinner, a different grind on it, different handle scales, and sheath, etc?
I sure do.
Example: I have a Cold Steel Mini Tac Tanto with serrated edge that is 2.5 milimeters thick in the blade and the blade is between 3 and 4 inches. This knife is actually pretty excellent as is, but, I would like a version that has a blade that is 5 or 6 inches and at least 3 to 4 mm thick for heavier duty cutting chores, and, while the "Secure Ex" Sheath is okay, there are better forms of knife sheaths I have seen and used.
There are Spyderco knives that I wish I could change some of the characteristics on, too.

I wish the myrtle had a slimmer stock.
I wish the native had a slimmer stock.
I wish the upcoming Rhino was bigger.
And I wish the Pacific Salt had a slimmer stock.
But I love all of them regardless.

I would stretch out the Manbug to 2.5 inches in blade length.

Actually, the One_Eyed Jack accomplished this but I did not buy it because: 1] it was too expensive for me 2] it was a liner lock instead of a back lock 3] it was a bit heavy.
(I love the looks and size, though)

Re: If you could change dimensions/sizes on your favorite knives?
Personally, I wish the Stretch 2 handle was the size of the "1st Generation" SS/Kraton version,. rather than being even larger than the "2nd Generation" versions that followed. That said, I do understand the change was made to make it more appealing to those with larger hands.

I'd like a longer Dragonfly. The problem is it seems like doing an XL version of a knife results in completely changing it, as with the Manix 2 XL. I just want the blade and handle extended in the middle about 3/8 each.

Re: If you could change dimensions/sizes on your favorite knives?
I'd like a thicker, contoured handle on the Manix 2, because it's often my only knife, so it gets used like a fixed blade from time to time.
I'd also like a smaller version of the Manix 2 (something like a Chaparral with a CBBL).

The Manix 2 Back Lock does have a thicker handle. But, I believe you prefer the CBBL. Me? I am happy with it.

Oh and I wish the Shaman had a Backlock. And that they made a wharny version of an American evergreen model like they did with delica. Probably the native or manix. Not really a change but an addition.

Re: If you could change dimensions/sizes on your favorite knives?
I’d make the Delica a tad larger and give it a choil. Wait, that’s the R. I’d have Spyderco release another R.
Re: If you could change dimensions/sizes on your favorite knives?
Love to see the Mantra 2 with a 4" to 5" lc, thin grind blade, and bronze washers.

I would like to see quite a few Spydies come with thinner blade stock.
I would like a Yojimbo with a 3.75 inch blade.
I would like a Shaman with a 4 inch blade.

Re: If you could change dimensions/sizes on your favorite knives?
I don't think about the dimensions my Spydies don't have.
If a Spydie is wanting, I look for a different model. The DF2, for example, is awkward in my hand, even though I can make it work. I don't have to make my just-acquired Urbans work; the model is right-sized for me.
If I'd gotten my new (and first) Delica before my DF2, I probably would not have pursued the DF2. In fact, my Spydie collection would probably be way smaller today.

Re: If you could change dimensions/sizes on your favorite knives?
For the Spyderco Delica 4, Endura 4, and Native, it would be nice if they were designed so that the blade tip was consistently seated deeper into the handle when closed. I find that sometimes the blade tips on these models are sometimes seated right at the point that when fully closed the blade tip will still catch and sometimes bite into your fingertips when they happen to brush along the knife, especially for the Endura and Native.
I've found that on special Endura 4 models such as the Spyderco Glock Endura that the blade tip is seated deeper into the handle when closed, while with the production Endura 4 the blade tip can be somewhat exposed. It would be nice if all knife brands could design their products so that the blade tips are seated deeper into the handle when closed.
Perhaps a change in the dimension/design of the knife handle's back end so that it rises a touch bit higher up and enclose the blade tip might work... perhaps a change in the dimension/design of the forward portion of the handle or resting stop to draw the blade tip deeper into the handle might work.
Example of knives I find to have their blade tips very nicely seated deeper inside their handles and out of the way when closed include the Spyderco Military, Spyderco Para Military, and Manix.

Re: If you could change dimensions/sizes on your favorite knives?
I'd like a Pacific Salt with another 1/2" of blade, 2.5mm stock, and a FFG. Should be lighter and slice better.
Manix XXL. 4.5" blade, either lock is fine.

Re: If you could change dimensions/sizes on your favorite knives?
I would love a Lefty Para3 (LH Para2 is my favourite folder ever, but a little big for some settings)
I would also love a Lefty Ti ATR (although the Righty version is still pretty **** nice, I prefer the lefty comp lock)
So i wouldn't change the sizes, just prefer a mirror image version

Re: If you could change dimensions/sizes on your favorite knives?
First and foremost the one Spyderco folder that I very much would like to see in a bigger/larger scale and that is the "Dodo" model. As versatile and agile as the original Dodo model is I can only imagine how much more I could work with it if we had one in a larger scale.
First off you could maybe have the blade about maybe one inch to 3/4ths of an inch longer and then just have the handle in proportion to the larger/wider blade. I'm telling you all that have never ever tried to use or EDC a Dodo model it is an extremely efficient folder for it's size and scope. And a larger version would just be a fabulous work knife and probably one that I personally would EDC quite a bit.
Another forgotten aspect of the original Dodo model was how good of a "hard use" tool it was in Spyderedge. I want another SE Dodo so bad and I'm hoping that they will eventually do a Sprint Run of them in Spyderedge.
Oh there is one more and I totally agree with Brother "Tvenuto" 100%>> and that's to have a somewhat smaller scale version of the C-60 Ayoob model. That to me would be the ultimate, tactical gentlemen's knife  Very interesting thread and great suggestions so far. I hope that the Great Spyder Factory hierarchy is monitoring this one for sure

Re: If you could change dimensions/sizes on your favorite knives?
Wow excellent ideas and views on how you would like to see changes made on the various dimensions of these knives.
Waterbug as you may have noticed, I am a big fan of the Spyderco Endura 4, with the Saber Grind, but, I agree with your statement on it; I have at times been concerned with how the blade is not as deep seated into the handle when closed. How could Spyderco change that while not giving up the saber-ground blade at its present thickness and size? Make the handle scales somewhat larger?
David, I too would love a longer Dragon Fly. Perhaps with a 3.5 inch blade, but the same dimensions in other parts.

A PM2 but slightly larger. I'd be in love. Maybe a 4.1" blade, keeping the same proportions.
CS recon 1 with an added finger choil.
Kershaw Link m390 with bigger handle.
CS ak-47 field knife with a slightly less curved handle at the end.
Kizer Rogue with larger handle.
