Guys let me know if you have any problems as I do with spyderco thin tips I don't pry with my knives but I definetly want use my blade in self defense if necessary but if I ever have to stab someone or slash the tip will probably break inside and spyderco don't offer blade replacement even it will be very good if the did I will be happy to send my spyderco in to get new scales or blade if broken and also spyderco should consider let their customers customize blades online on their webpage
I understand your concern, all kidding aside. However, it is groundless, as many hard use/abuse tests have shown. You would have to actually be trying to break the tip before it did so.

Most of my family work for the Airlines. I have been blessed to visit many countries in Western and Eastern Europe, Central and South America.

Being attacked by another with a knife to me is really rare occurance. This of course can be measured more by location, street iq, etc.

I have been to some rough zones.
The only time I have seen a lot of knives were in the subway systems in Buenos Aires (year after bankruptcy) and in Sal Paolo.

You don't want to end up in a knife fight.
A strong tipped sharp knife is very nice, but I would rather be sharp with my brain and get out of the situation to live another day.

I think if I saved my own life with a Spyderco and it broke, I would frame it on my wall as it was broken tip and all

I thought most EMS departments would reimburse you for the cost of your knife when you stab your patient and break the tip off, maybe it's only at the state level?

I just woke up and was thinking I read the OP wrong. Nope, I didn't. I'm a former Firefighter Paramedic and Army Infantryman...I find it hard to believe the OP is an officer of any sort, and if so, is inexperienced and in the "need coolest gear" phase. I may be incorrect...but if this guy was one of my buddies, I would give him so much **** for being a tool.

Like I said, I just woke up so I'm bitter.

He must be looking to get out of being a first responder, since he has applied at Spyderco. Unless they need first responders for all of the cuts that come from sharpening thousands of knives. So would this make his original post null and void?

I carried an old school Delica with the pointy tip as an EMT and as a Army Medic - never broke the tip. Did break the tip on a Ka-bar prying open a metal medical supply crate. In fairness I needed it open NOW and was not being careful. End result was worth the broken knife tip.

If you really want a ParaMilitary, get it and use it. If you do break the tip off in a self-defense scenario I'd be surprised. I always buy a knife to suit the tasks at hand instead of those rare what if moments.

The OP is probably just concerned because the last time he stabbed somebody, the tip of his pencil broke off inside them and he lost his ability to use punctuation.

LOL. The knives you mention with "thin" tips don't have thin tips bro. Seriously. Thin tips are better for knife things. If you need thick tips you need a screwdriver or a prybar.

Am I wrong or has the forum been pranked by a series of first-posters (different usernames, same person?) over the past several weeks?

That being the case I'll amuse your post is genuine and consequently I unequivocally apologise for my smart mouthed relies and I sincerely hope you do accept my apology. :o

In answer to your concerns I can only say that the tips on the knives you mention are surprisingly robust and a feature that makes them so appealing to so many knife enthusiasts and I for one would not like to see any changes.

With regard to stabbing or slashing people I'd be inclined to think that they would be more than adequate but you may like to consider that stabbing someone is likely much easier said than done and I truly hope you never find yourself in a situation whereby you actually need to.

Personally I believe discretion is the better part of valour and I've learned in my time that most often even the most volatile situation can be defuse if you so choose to do so and humour to be a very underestimated and powerful weapon in defusing situations that could potentially escalated to violence.

All said, I'd be inclined to suggest you enjoy your knives, using them for their intended purpose and perhaps invest some time in maintaining your personal fitness and a quality pair of running shoes never go astray either. ;)
