The stones are solid ceramic, just like a plate, they don't absorb water/fluids. They can crack if you impact them, otherwise they resist pretty much anything.
And how is this system on sharpening the **** scandi grinds?
You can fit them in the base and use them like a benchstone.

It would depend on the angle. A typical Mora is 10/11 degrees, some of the robust models are ~15 degrees. Other production versions have angles as high as 20 to 25 degrees. Custom single bevel grinds are typically 15 degrees, Jacklore for example.

If you mean can you put the rods in the base as they are normally used and lay the knife flat against it to hit the bevel, yes of course. However if you are going to do that it is more effective to put both rods in the base as there are slots there which are made to do that and just use it like a benchstone. You have more surface area with both rods and it is a more natural angle angle to hold than trying to tilt the knife against a 15 or 20 dps rod to fit an arbitrary bevel. But yes, you could do it that way.

I am a sharpening klutz and am still able to get all of my knives razor sharp with this thing. It's very simple to use. I would recommend getting the diamond rods and the ultra fine rods which makes for a very capable system.

Ref sharpening scandi blades on the SM, you could put the stones on the base and use them as a bench stone or even mount the stone on the side of the base like you were sharpening a pair of scissors.
