RYAN,
I look forward to getting a set of the diamond rods. I'm sure they will be real time savers for some old kitchen knives I've been ignoring. Are they coated on the edges also or just the flats?

Calypso Reborn

I just received the 2002 catalog. It was quite a surprise to see the spirit of the full size Calypso folder reborn as the fixed blade "Temperance" ! Anyone know where they are available now?

Do all the FRN Vesuvius knives have the Bug inlay or is it a different model? I saw a picture somewhere in the Forum and it really looks great.

New Rescue model

Sal,

I realize that it may be early to "Bug" you about new models but will next year's rescue be a new design or an upgrade of the original? Will plain edge still be an option? Any details that you can temp me with would be appreciated. I'm a police officer and carry a couple of Spydercos on every ...

I vote for a Blue Calypso Jr. I believe it's appropriate as that knife seems to appeal mostly to informed users that would pay to have a special edition.

I love the plain edge Rescue ! So much in fact that I had made my own out of an earlier Rescue before Spyderco offered the plain edge. I have used it in several emergency medical situations and it worked great ! Having a plain, flat edge is easy to keep razor sharp and lets it act as more of a ...

Forgot to mention to rinse the knife really well in running water while working the lock and blade to get any grit out of the handle.

MaNcEr,

I just got a Harpy (S/S) also...great knife! I love the Hawksbill for utility uses. I actually want Spyderco to make a larger size one. Oh Well ! Anyway, about your polishing question...I've made a few knives and messed around with a whole lot more. I found a method for refinishing blades ...

jrollins,

Thanks for the comments...I didn't know what the "SARK" was but when I looked it up, it is almost what I had in mind ! I had just put down my thoughts on what I would change based on my experience. I think an Emerson / Spyderco collaboration SARK would sell in droves to emergency services ...

Ideal Rescue/Emergency knife design points

I have seen some very good discussion about different ideas for Rescue type knives in the forum so I just wanted to add my 2 cents:

Handle : Zytel is perfect. This would keep the upfront cost down and allow easy replacement if lost or damaged. Zytel is also impervious to disinfectant cleaners ...

kbOrrg,

I ordered the Rescue on the Spyderco Proucts section of the website. They added the edge type to the options drop down list.

If you mean the Matriarch, I don't know...I have only seen pictures on the Net. I'll post if I have any luck. Every place that lists it are sold out.

New Viele vs old Viele

I'm looking at purchasing a C42 Viele plain edge but my usual source only has the older model (Aus-8 steel). I'm looking for any comparative advice on the "practical" differences between the two models.

Any points would be appreciated.

I wouldn't try it either way....Airports have been getting tighter and tighter in the security department. I have heard from various trainers (knife and pistol) that serrated knives of any length are getting tossed. I have personally found that "classey" looking knives get little attention from ...

Plain Edge Rescue

Sal, if you read this posting, GREAT JOB on the Plain edge Rescue !! It is a perfect utility knife now as opposed to more of just an emergency knife. Please keep that as an option.... too bad you had to discontinue the stainless Rescues! The on-line ordering could not have been easier.

Any idea ...
