wow ... your regrind eliminates all the reservations I had/have about purchasing the Barong in that it increases the cutting edge appreciably and also gives the thumb a counterpressure ramp for optimum blade control. It's a beautiful Calypso reincarnated with an even better handle (except without a ...

Take a look at the serrations on the CaraCara Rescue. The intermediate points are not too catchy at all compared to most VG-10 or H-1 serrations. It cuts very well and is easier to sharpen. Not rustproof, but an occasional rinse and oily wipe will take care of that. I think from what I've read, it ...

It's like two steel ball bearings in Capt. Queeg's palm
I just received a couple of T-Mags today.
One was near perfect in almost all respects (fit, finish, opening) and the other has burred liners and blade rubbing upon opening and closing which is difficult to adjust away. I've sanded and profiled the liner edges and loosened the pivot a bit. Now, it ...

I've gotten used to it ... i.e. the muted color of foliage green G-10.
Most who object to it liken it to a grey-green putty color. I think it looks more like sun-faded ripstop fatigues. It's neutral in tone ... western more than eastern in character. Looks good against a weathered juniper fence post or even on an old couch fabric. Kind of the opposite vibe of the ...

I'm with you in having a fascination with combining the versatility of a plain edge along with the cutting dependability of the spyderedge.

Those pics really show the Cara Cara's great blade
That's one of the best things about it ... that big, long, nicely curved blade in combination with one of the most ergonomically sound handles (both near and far grips) and thick, super-strong construction of the G-10 model.

Hard test of ZDP-189 (with magnified pictures)
How about either the Delica or Endura ZDP-189 combo edge.
Let us know how well the serrations hold up (do the edges or points become chipped/broken in hard use?) and also. how the factory secondary bevel is to live with (without reprofiling). Some say it's way too obtuse to take advantage of the ...

Back lock
I like this lock configuration because:
1) The back lock allows the handle and blade to be "sealed up" to a greater degree than most others. The helps repel larger debris particles (and mud) because the cracks which open to the interior are smaller. The pivot area is easily accessed and cleaned ...

Cara Cara Rescue just arrived !!!
The Cara Cara Rescue will become my main "serrated alternative knife" used to complement whatever edc I've got with me. With this much serrated edge (8 scallups ... 86 mm!) for backup, it allows for a wider choice of knives for primary usage (i.e. they can be smaller and/or plain edge only ... or ...

Were they thinking the clip helps in opening and closing?
With the smooth micarta, maybe it was thought the clip position by the pivot helps manipulate the knife by giving the front fingers something to pinch onto.
Just a thought.

Para carry
The Para is just wide enough and long enough ... to present significant obstruction to reaching deep into smaller front pockets. And because it's tip down, there's the slightest of chances it's blade might open (pointing towards the top of your thigh) if you fall or get hung up moving through coarse ...

FRN Cara Cara CE ... near perfect "worker"
Call me crazy (get in line) but I LOVE this knife.
I first got hooked on the Cara Cara design when I bought the G-10 version a year or so ago (best heavy-duty folder for the money that I know of) and have worshipped it's design and robust build ever since. The only sub-optimal aspects of the G-10 ...

Remembering the end-user
In this case, the end-user is your brother (not you) ... described as a simple guy ... as yet not tuned in to high-performance knives. Presumably, this means he's not yet aware of high-end sharpening either. And outdoors plus edc is where the knife will see action.

How about a black Pacific Salt?
Easy to sharpen (hollow grind), fairly low profile and conventional looking (thin, flat, Endura 3 handle), very lightweight and time-tested design requiring minimal maintenance (few adjustments ever needed ... just washing and sharpening).

Ditto on the D'Allara
I wholeheartedly agree that the D"Allara is a special knife ... both for it's ball lock that has incredible smoothness of operation and security ... and for it's contoured FRN handle that is superb for outdoor, hard-use applications. This grippy design out-performs every other folder handle I own ...

I like the non-reflective aspect of all-black knives.
When I use my Raven, I like it's low profile "tones". The handle isn't so precious that I'm afraid to dirty or scratch it. There are no really bright reflections coming off the liners, screws or blade (except the edge). The lighter colored metals are a sand-blasted, gun-metal grey as opposed to ...

I've lost a couple of pair of glasses (one was expensive:mad :) this year while traversing cross-country doing forestry work. I put my most often used things in the upper open top pockets (compass, inclinometer, etc) and have them tied when possible.

Try a Centofante III
Whenever I review my FRN knives, the two that nearly always feel right in my hands for light to medium cutting chores are the Cento III and my "go to" beater, a revered Endura 3 CE. They both have a lot of smooth surface ... and that seems right for light work. Also, they're the ultralight champs of ...

Lately, I've been appreciating the utility of my FRN Cara Cara CE because of it's thin factory grind, fairly long cutting edge (3.25"), superior handle shape and uni-directional texturing, reliable back lock and low price ... all allowing it to be used hard (replaceable) with a variety of media ...

Foliage green looks better with tan/brown than darker green ... so this pic may be easier on the eyes to show the modified contour.
