D'Allara discovery
Having been blessed with over 60 Spyderco's over the years I have been on that ever-pressing quest "to find the perfect one" , for us users of knives that is our "holy grail" , the one that does it all...... My D'Allara plain edge jumped in my pocket lately as I awaited a black bladed Native to arrive . It stayed to long,, it cuts like a "bugger", it opens fast,, the blade is lock-down tight, no play side to side or up and down ( as some of the others do) . It is big but carries nice and small in the pocket. What a hidden "jewel". And what an appropriate way to honor a fallen hero that loved Spydercos -- I think he would also say it is THE winner. take care all, Joe
My sentiments exactly. Love mine even though my Military usually bumps it out of the pocket.

Really glad to hear you like it, it's a real "sleeper" spyderco that grows on you.
Ditto on the D'Allara
I wholeheartedly agree that the D"Allara is a special knife ... both for it's ball lock that has incredible smoothness of operation and security ... and for it's contoured FRN handle that is superb for outdoor, hard-use applications. This grippy design out-performs every other folder handle I own for strength and comfort. It's big ... but it's worth it.
The blade is a high hollow-ground that can readily be kept sharp. I wish it was 1/4 to 1/2 inch longer ... but that would probably have made the handle gargantuan because of the lock design. It's slightly heavy ... but the weight is so widely distributed (it's not dense weight like the Manix models) that it seems reasonable as an outdoor folder. The wire clip is my favorite and the price allows more people to acquire and use it. Definitely one of my most esteemed Spyderco knives ... it works!
Too bad it's been discontinued ... I may buy a CE spare for use 5-10 years from now ... it's that good.

IMHO the D'Allara is definitely a sleeper. It is a great knife in every way.

My plain blade has been in my pocket for 2 weeks now!
Does not sound like much, but have a fairly large assortment to choose from.
Backed off on the blade adj a bit, lubed it up and WOW smooth & solid.
Zero play.
Plan to add a 2nd one as a back up.
Its that good.
No idea why it didn't catch on?
But with so many Spyderco's available its easy for a "hidden "jewel"
to slip by I guess.
If I had to sum it up, I would call it a friendly knife.
Non menacing with a great grind.
What a sleeper.............. in plain edge...........
Cant say enough good things about it!
Thanks Sal!

It's the only model in my small collection that I have more than two versions. The WTC was the first knife in my collection. I had four C82 drop points engraved for a very important event at work and gave them to my crew. And I just happen to be EDC'ing my C82 Rescue this week and had a chance to show it to a farrier that was working at the scene of one of our calls yesterday, he too was impressed with the model.
Needless to say the WTC/C82 is a large part of the entire Spyderco experience for me.

Horizontal blade play...
Went to purchase ANOTHER knife today and looked at the D'Allara PE. Found some horizontal play on the blade when handling it
. Enough to put me off. Opted for the Dragonfly PE to add to the collection :D .

It sat in its box for months with me.
Initially I thought the handle was too big... too wide. Lack of jimping really through me off.
But once i started carrying it and using it... it really grew on me.
I love the ball lock.
I'd like to see a Sprint run ZDP-189 steel D'allara
