D2 Para modified

#1

Post by stap2211 »

Well, as recommended, I carried my D2 Para for a week or so to see if I could adapt to it's ergo's ... but I finally succumbed to the temptation to enlargen the handle to provide more finger space behind the choil.

It was about 80 mm peak to peak before and now it's about 90 mm. I left the back end with a sharper butt (busk?) than before ... and although it looks a bit thin-waisted ... it now feels ROOMY for FOUR fingers.

I also took a mm or so out of the area just before the pivot bump to steepen the ramp up there for better indexing ... by which I mean feeling where your hand is on the knife without looking.

Feels like a "western" version of what it was before. I had my doubts, but am now glad I did it. Now I just have to do final bevel work and finer grit sanding.

Cleaned and buffed

Foliage green looks better with tan/brown than darker green ... so this pic may be easier on the eyes to show the modified contour. I didn't have a coping saw so I used a hack saw instead (that's when I was asking myself what the heck I was doing :eek :) followed by a small sanding drum with coarse grit (80 ?). It was truly a "hack job" but it's close enough to what I wanted that it suits me.

Nice job man. Your work looks very good. It's nice that if something doesn't fit, you just customize it so it's yours. ;)
