Re: Discontinued for 2026
There are plenty other PM M4 sources, so availability shouldn't be a problem

Re: To what angles do you sharpen "unknown steel" knives?
I'd start at 15 and add microbevel IF there is unexpected damage in use. But that's what I do with basically every knife I get ^^. Rarely do I happen upon a steel that can't handle it (I had a couple D2 and M390 blades whose edges crumbled at that dps) and most can go lower still

Re: More button compression locks?
Got the Milwaukee version today 😂
Is that model a compression button lock? My Milwaukees have a button lock, but no compression lock, so...just curious. I don't own that exact model.
Since the DeWalt has a compression lock, you can open it without pressing the button (unlike my Milwaukees ...

Re: Metals and alloys
Not sure if You're asking for an actual steel ingot as in a couple hundred kilos of even tonnes, pre rolling etc or just a piece of steel enough for a knife?
If the latter, You have a couple answers above.
If the former, I'd guess You'd need to contact the steel maker directly

Re: Blade to Handle Efficiency?
Maximizing blade in handle is one thing, but OP mentioned another problem - blade not being deep enough in the handle shortening the lifespan of the knife. And on the Sage 5 indeed lengthening the blade would put the tip in a place where the handle covers it more

Re: CPM Spy27 in a Post-Crucible World
My guess is more that it's a proprietary, cutlery-only steel rather than it being hard to process.Spyderbot_matrix wrote: ↑Thu Oct 30, 2025 10:05 pmMight as well grab a manix 2 spy27 LW in both the Aquamarine and Cobalt blue- but why no NSM
“Spywear“ or “Spycut” or “Spyedge”? Does it have a PITA process like 15V?

Re: Discontinued for 2026
Two surprises:
1. I always thought the GB2 was quite popular, it was always OOS locally, always sold quickly on the secondary as well. Luckily I got both the standard and CruWear+Jade G10 so I'm covered. Great design. And hopefully it's as others've said - maybe it's just making space for a new ...

Re: Hey Al - " Mule Team" - Wendy
Even though I won't be able to take part in the experiment in any capacity it's still amazing to me that a big, market leading company runs such a unique community driven initiative. One of the reasons why I like Spyderco so much! Can't wait for what comes out of this and of course I'd love to get a ...

Re: Sal, anything you´d like to share on the Golden made BACKLOCK Polestar? (Another "handle forward" knife?)
I guess I can provide an update? We made prototypes of the Polestar and Alcyone with mid back-locks and "Handle Forward". Eric thought that the models might sell better with Compression Locks, so we made Prototypes with Compression Locks with the edge to the handle, no handle forward. Then we made ...

Re: Misophonia Poll
One of my friends has it, don't recall exactly what sound it was, something pretty mundane though, and she said it caused her physical pain to hear it. The only thing I heard about treatment is some type of psychological therapy but I didn't look too deep into it.

Re: Favorite fidgety locking system?
Being of the ADD tribe I definitely put value on fidget factor. For me it's more complex than just lock type but if I had to focus only on that then I like locks where You don't have to switch Your grip op from opening to closing. That's why I voted for Frame lock (though Liner locks are equivalent ...

Re: What is a "front flipper?"
I prefer to call them “top flipper” rather than “front flipper”. Part of the reason for their design was not to have “big” flipper tab sticking out from the side. There are variations to the “top flipper” opening and some stick out too far from the top and makes them aesthetically less pleasing ...

Re: What is a "front flipper?"
I was always thinking it described the location of the flipper in regard to the handle, there being front flippers (at the front edge of the handle), top filppers (that are at the top of the handle, not on either edge) and back flippers (that are at the back edge). Nothing to do with mode of ...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal, Part 2
I've been carrying and using the SPY27 stretch 2 xl lw for a couple weeks now and I was always surprised how well it cut absolutely everything despite not being that thin BTE. Yesterday I finally had some free time to sit down with my fixed angle sharpener to finally put my own edge on it (the ...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal, Part 2
In your experience, what is the highest level of wear resistance or carbide volume that you can still effectively sharpen with quality non-diamond stones like the shapton kuromaku? Or even the sharpmaker ceramic rods?
If the answer is "It depends on the carbide type and hardness" or something ...

I love the thin stock, seemingly contoured handles, white G10 and overall design. The only issue, but a big one, is the steel. There are so many more interesting options available in China nowadays

Re: China
I'm not a fan of the chinese government but if that was a big factor for me then I wouldn't buy anything from any of the world superpowers as they all have plenty on their conscience. And conversely I wouldn't have much to buy apart from absolute basic stuff...
