Plenty of bars, concert halls, churches and other places I've done security for don't do pat downs or metal detectors.
How do you categorize knife size?

Re: How do you categorize knife size?
Guess I am a dinosaur cause I got to have my large blade pocket Knives, and I don't carry just the one either. They can just arrest me, I ain't running, so they are certainly going to catch up to me lol...
Then for those places that you absolutely can't carry a pocket knife like mine, I will just avoid going in all together. I am not going to miss much. Just being a dinosaur here lol.

I've probably been to 1000 concerts and I've never been to a venue that didn't pat everyone down. I've been to some real crappy hole in the wall hardcore shows where the guy patting you down is probably a roadie but they still made everyone turn out their pockets and they pay you down. You could probably sneak something in if you really wanted. Regardless, there's a contradiction for every point made. I just try to not give the authorities a reason to even notice I'm there.

Fortunately, Spyderco offers enough variation in their pocket knives that most of us can find a model with the features that best meet our individual needs.
Re: How do you categorize knife size?
I am not trying too fool anyone. It seems that you might have completely misunderstood my previous post on this subject. I am looking for another, small, entirely legal, discreet, EDC folder, sometimes called a “gentleman’s” folder, a cutting tool, not a weapon that I want to smuggled past rent-a-cops at music venues :-)
For example, my 3” Sage 2 has been filling that EDC role since it was released, but I am thinking about replacing it with a newer folder that features the compression lock that I prefer instead of the RIL that was featured on the Sage 2.
Something around 3” in length is generally big enough to cut what I need to regularly cut without scaring the neighbors too much while doing it, which is what I mean by”small,” and “discreet.”
Re: How do you categorize knife size?
Get a sage 5 or 6 then :)

That's a lot of irony smuggled into a single paragraphgwlee wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2026 3:10 pmI am not trying too fool anyone. That's wild you're upset enough to try to insult me because I made a comment about the pocket clip of your folding knife, lol.
Re: How do you categorize knife size?
For folders, less than 3" is too small and greater than 4" is too big. IMO 3.5" is perfect. The PM2 is perfect.
Re: How do you categorize knife size?
As a general rule, I try to avoid all places that are considered dangerous enough to require the security guards, metal detectors, and pat downs.vivi wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2026 3:10 pmPlenty of bars, concert halls, churches and other places I've done security for don't do pat downs or metal detectors.
Re: How do you categorize knife size?
Likewise. Best way to avoid trouble is to try to not to go places where you're likely to find it.
Re: How do you categorize knife size?
Just work there.
Re: How do you categorize knife size?
Unfortunately can't tell from experience, I only got the rex121 sage 5 for the steel as I like larger knives. But I didn't see any issue reports regarding the button actuated compression lock :)
Re: How do you categorize knife size?
Thanks. I haven’t heard about any problems with the button actuated compression lock either, but it’s new feature, so thought it was worth asking the question.horzuff wrote: ↑Sun May 17, 2026 1:31 pmUnfortunately can't tell from experience, I only got the rex121 sage 5 for the steel as I like larger knives.
