Re: National Knives

Regardless of MAP shenanigans I will continue to support National Knives. In my top five go to knife dealers.

Re: NFL is back!

The pass rush was just too much and Drake’s accuracy was terrible.

Darnold now joins Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson and Joe Flacco as QBs that I never thought would get a ring but found themselves on the right squad and pulled it off.

Re: Crazy Good Deals Part 2!!

Seems like moving forward even the MAP holidays will be heavily enforced with Spyderco dictating how much can be marked down and on what models.

It also seems as though they are letting supply of most models dwindle before they discontinue them to reduce the amount of knives sold at closeout ...

Re: I've got to have a Charisma!

It looks interesting. Love the blade shape and thin stock. I usually like bigger knives but do sometimes carry smaller knives. Hopefully the lock is solid like a Native5. If I can find one for a good price I’ll probabaly jump in it.

Re: How often do you alternate on the Sharpmaker stones?

Starting at 30 degrees with the diamond rods I do one side until I have a bur and then the other till I have a bur. Then I go to 40 with the brown rods and debur with alternating passes. I like that edge finish. I’ll then do touch ups with alternating passes on the browns at 40. If touchups start ...

Re: Prices OMG Seriously?

It is what it is. The price of most things has gotten crazy. I still bought a handful last year and I’ll likely buy a couple this year. I dont think most of them are a good value anymore but this is a hobby where I buy luxury items with my expendable funds.

Re: What Spyderco for extreme snowy weather?

I spend significantly more time in the snow than most people. I can’t think of how snow would affect my decision except for wanting a knife I can use with gloves on.

Re: Tri Ad Lock Patent Expires in 2026

I’ve got a Tuff Lite and a Finn Wolf and I’m quite fond of both. The Tuff Lite is an incredibly functional small utility knife. They aren’t overbuilt tanks so I haven’t really abused either lock but they are smooth and lock up solid.

Re: L.T. Wright thoughts

I only have one, the Large Pouter. The fit and finish is good but the edge is a bit thick for a knife marketed as a camp kitchen knife. One of these days I’ll convex it and thin it out a bit.

Re: What Rifle and Caliber combo for deer season?

I mostly bow hunt but my deer rifle is a Tikka T3 in 270 Winchester. I’ve killed quite a bit with it. I also have an older savage 110 30-06 that was my fathers and I killed my first buck with it. My son is 10 and he shot a buck with an ar in 5.56 last year. So far this year I haven’t been able to ...

Re: Secondary bevels on Scandi grinds 🫠

Yeah, I’m not too precise about it. Most of my convex edges get a little more obtuse towards the tip. I can sharpen well if I really put the effort in but I was also taught how to sharpen as a kid with a handheld whetstone and a pack of wet dry sandpaper. Most of the knives my father and grandfather ...

Crucarta Proficient

Crucarta Caribbean

15V Military Brown Micarta (original)

An actual chopper. Shcempp Rock too small, Darn Dao too expensive, Forester long discontinued. Preferably geared towards the outdoors. Maybe a Schempp Rock but with a 10 inch blade that weighs just over a pound. Maybe ...

Re: Petty knife for cheese?

For slicing lots of hard cheese uniform I like the hand held wire style cutters.

For having guests over I have a small walnut cutting board with a wire cheese cutter built in.

For soft cheese I just use a butter knife or if we have guests I have a small spreading knife that looks better.

I eat ...

Re: Secondary bevels on Scandi grinds 🫠

A scandi with a secondary bevel is basically a saber grind. I think some companies do it for ease of manufacturing.

My Jääkäripuukko came with a large secondary bevel and because of the thick blade stock it also had a very obtuse primary grind. I just convexed it, which is in my opinion the final ...

Kill rats without mercy. Snap traps, hav a harts or poison. Peanut butter is the best bait. Be careful where you store chicken food and dog food. I keep my chicken food in a galvanized trash can. Rats love chicken food. I learned the hard way. Rats are extremely intelligent so be prepared to get ...
