Re: Rex 45 sharpening

Z-max is new and I have no experience with it. S110V is the only steel I find a little challenging to sharpen. Not sure why since I find most steels pretty easy. I haven’t had any issues with Rex45 myself. It deburs easily and I can get crispy edges with it without the attention to detail that S110V...

I haven’t handled an Endela yet but I have handled many many Enduras and Delicas and I cannot imagine that the Endela has better ergos than the Stretch. I vote Stretch,

Re: Cruwear Micarta PM2 Full liners

0.1 ounces is insignificant. I wouldn’t be able to tell much difference. I think nested liners is a nice feature and I hope this change is only on this knife. The Crucarta Shaman has nested liners and I have an aftermarket set of PM2 scales in micarta that is nested that has held up fine. I am sure ...

Re: Cruwear Micarta PM2 Full liners

I don't think there's any way it can be lighter or as light as the linerless G10 version. I'm thinking the spec is wrong, unless there's something I'm not realizing. Is there a linerless G10 version of the PM2?! I don´t think so - ? That would be kind of hard to do since one of the liners is the lo...

Re: Crazy Good Deals Part 2!!

They had Glock mags for $20 with free shipping and no sales tax. I tried to add a Bow River but they were sold out. Oh well, I have a pile of mags inbound.

Re: Knife lubricating agents

How much lubrication do we need? It is just a pocket knife. These are not guns and they certainly are not internal combustion engines. I mainly lubricate to protect from corrosion and any improvement to the action is just a bonus. As knife nuts I realize that we way overthink lots of things about kn...

Re: Spyderco Steel Types

I am usually eager to help with sharpening. Not so much because I think I am great at it or an expert though. It was a desire to learn how to sharpen really well that initially got me reading and participating on the various online knife forums. Many folks were extremely helpful and amazingly genero...

Re: Knife lubricating agents

I stick with mineral oil because it is non toxic, food safe and extremely affordable. I also always have some laying around so it’s convenient.

I have lots of gun lubes but choose not to use them on my knives due to the occasional impromptu food prep.

Re: Spyderco Steel Types

So, in theory you can get any steel arbitrarily sharp, but in practice some steels are much much easier to sharpen. There are of course some who will tell you that you can develop your skills and then all steels are easy to bring to the same degree of sharpness. So far I think they are blowing smok...

Re: Are we actually sharpening the carbides?

With an abrasive that is harder than the carbides I think that the answer is yes. Diamonds will cut vanadium carbides. Abrasives that are hard enough to cut the steel matrix but not the carbide will still sharpen the edge but they can “plow” the carbides through the steel instead of cutting them. Th...

Re: Spyderco Steel Types

All steels can basically achieve the same level of sharpness. If you are asking this question you probably don’t have the skill to tell the difference. Sharpness is defined as the thickness of the apex measured in microns. A 1 micron edge is stupid sharp and a 0.1 micron edge is insanely sharp and m...

Re: As a fan, it's sad Spyderco isn't adressing the slysz bowie problem.

Stating that the Slysz Bowie being discontinued is somehow a "problem" that put a stain on Spyderco's reputation is a bit ridiculous IMO. Kind of feels like the OP is trying to pressure Spyderco into bringing the Slysz Bowie back The OP does appear to be using inflammatory language and hyperbole to...

Re: As a fan, it's sad Spyderco isn't adressing the slysz bowie problem.

Also keep in mind that doing another run might make many happy but it will also make many unhappy. Collectors are a big part of the market for these higher end knives so their wishes carry weight too. For this reason it would probably come back as a sprint with some changes to preserve the value of ...

Re: As a fan, it's sad Spyderco isn't adressing the slysz bowie problem.

Never understood the hype for this model. It seems pretty far from the best knife ever. I think scarcity fueled the demand. Shabazz did his review not long before it got discontinued so the hype hit right as the supply dried up. I disliked the blade shape, the clip position related to the lock bar r...
