Prices OMG Seriously?
Prices OMG Seriously?
I just looked at the latest reveal prices over at Blade H.Q. and the amount of FRN stuff.
One word comes to mind.
SHOCKING! and not in a good way.
First part goes to taste, I am just never going to be an FRN fan the midlocks they all have lock rock and compared to the G10 models just feel cheap by comparison. Can only taste with my mouth as Sal says so cant speak for others.
Price, excuse me but when I saw $427.50 for a sage 6 in REX-121 I did a double take and thought oh heck no! There is no way it is worth that! Feels like price gouging is the impression.
I paid $300.00 for my CF Sage6 in S90V and thought that was a bit high but $427.50 for Burnt Orange-G10 uh yeah no, just no I told myself, as in buying permissions revoked.
Impossible to justify that price as I just bought a modified clip point and wharncliffe PM2 in REX-121 for $265.00 each and one of the Wharncliffes came with an unfinished blade.
Not sure where the justification comes from for that whopper of a price, hope it's a mistake because if Spyderco becomes that overpriced it looks like my buying days are over.
Not complaining because Spyderco will do as they please and it is a waste of time to complain, just offering a buyers perspective as a buyer who has spent thousands in the last year alone on Spyderco products and influenced others in real life to do the same just saying no.
I am not the only one either when I showed the page on the phone the other person said oh heck no, looks like I will be buying more stuff from Buck they atleast seem to be more reasonable.

Re: Prices OMG Seriously?
It sounds to me like it's time for you to start making REX121 knives and selling them cheap to show Spyderco how it should be done.
Re: Prices OMG Seriously?
prices have been insane for years. you won't find much sympathy from people around here though. lots of people here would give their last dollar to spyderco for a knife they already have in a different steel and tell you they're serving the greater good for doing it.

You get what you pay for.
If you want Rex121, you pay for it. What other knife manufacturer or bladesmith has Rex121 available today, NOW.
Spyderco has to test and test and test and then train everyone on how to deal with Rex121 to turn the knives out.

Re: Prices OMG Seriously?
Yeah no not looking for sympathy or trying to provoke reactionary comments about doing REX-121 or whatever like that, not even trying to tell Spyderco how to do buisness thought that was clear, guess not, just expressing shock others can do as they wish, spend as they wish I honestly dont care what others buy nor the price they will pay, not my wallet, as for me well refusal to go that high on prices is all. No, just no.
I guess this is what Sal was talking about when it came to price of manufacturing in the U.S. now versus China.
Very happy to have the large collection I do now and probably the best time to buy is now because the future looks too expensive going by what I saw on that site.

Re: Prices OMG Seriously?
My only question is why a PM2 REX-121 is $265, while the Sage 6 REX-121 is $427? That’s a large price difference and not sure why.
I have a Sage 5 LW REX-121 and it’s well with the price for that steel.

Exactly hence the shock I also have a sage 5 in REX-121 G10 Incoming paid $245.00 on Amazon.WilliamMunny wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 8:05 pmMy only question is why a PM2 REX-121 is $265, while the Sage 6 REX-121 is $427? That’s a large price difference and not sure why.

Re: Prices OMG Seriously?
I want the Rex Chap. That's also expensive. My approach is delayed gratification. Inflation is a thing and what seems like a lot today, might be okay in a year.
The last Chap I bought, the SE FRN, was relatively cheap at $100, so i think Spyderco is still able to offer something to everyone in every price range. And Rex 121 is not a budget steel. Someday it will be, but not today.

I buy a lot of knives from a wide array of manufacturers. To get some folders from some bladesmiths (Spartan and Hinderer) you pay $600+ to $700+ for S45VN!!!!

Re: Prices OMG Seriously?
Probably the same reason several other exclusives have been at or below the price of the black G10/S30V base model... the dealer entered into a contract with Spyderco several years ago. There's a linked video in the 'Jeff Loffer' thread where he mentions that sprint run has been in development for five (5!) years. KnifeCenter and SMKW Shaman exclusives were also priced lower.WilliamMunny wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 8:05 pmMy only question is why a PM2 REX-121 is $265, while the Sage 6 REX-121 is $427? Re: Prices OMG Seriously?
Because the PM2 is a dealer exclusive and dealers get to set those table prices. Dealers tend to use those sprints as loss leaders to win customer loyalty instead of short term profit gains. You can go pretty deep into Blade HQs M4/Green G10 models see they're consistently lower than production knife prices.WilliamMunny wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 8:05 pmMy only question is why a PM2 REX-121 is $265, while the Sage 6 REX-121 is $427? Good to know, I didn’t realize dealers could impact the price.Danke wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 8:50 pmBecause the PM2 is a dealer exclusive and dealers get to set those table prices. Re: Prices OMG Seriously?
But Spyderco still lists their own MSRP, regardless of what the exclusive place charges. The MSRP for the PM2 in rex 121 is $360, while the Sage in rex 121 is $570. Even the Chaparral is $480 MSRP. Seems strange that Spyderco would go so far as to change their own MSRP model for those PM2 exclusives.Danke wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 8:50 pm

Evidently not considering how many of the recent Cutlery Shoppe exclusives have severe lock stick and unfinished edges.Naperville wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 7:46 pmSpyderco has to test and test and test and then train everyone on how to deal with Rex121 to turn the knives out.

Yup about the eye watering prices. Life is too expensive these days. I will be content and make the most of what I have.

Also, for the Chaps and Sages, they have to export the steel and import the finished knives. Maybe production itself is a tad cheaper in Taiwan, but not enough to offset the added overhead cost of imports and exports.riclaw wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 8:34 pmProbably the same reason several other exclusives have been at or below the price of the black G10/S30V base model... the dealer entered into a contract with Spyderco several years ago.
