Hi Paul,
I went ahead down the coloured epoxy root with grinding dust from handle.
I learned a few things from my mistakes in the process...

1. The wood I had was of lower quality than I thought and this became apparent in the final shaping as flaws opened up during sanding. To be honest I'm not ...

Thank you very much indeed Paul. I've just been thinking about laying up some coloured epoxy and silk (old necktie) to make a micarta sheet to give me a spacer layer I can add over the existing SS scales and then cut back to give a flat surface to mount the wood on.

Your reply has also set me ...

Thanks Guys,
I've seen some of Vess' excellent work on his website and on Bladeforum and even here. In fact I remember the bloodwood Endura.

I'm thinking of quite a different look though, with much thicker wood and a flat back to the handle -which is why I'm looking for ways to tackle the chamfer ...

Cladding SS Spydies

I have a couple of Spyderco SS models -Police -EnduraII -DelicaII and a Native II. I also have some blocks of thuya burl and one of lacewood and have been thinking about cladding a spydie with thickish handle slabs, treating the existing smooth stainless handles as "liners".

I like the look of ...

Spot the Jot.
This little lot was the initial cause of my arachnophilia. Current count is 25-ish despite the Atlantic Ocean getting in the way.

The JSK is the smoothest opening Spydie I have. Very good comfortable fit for a small hand and massive blade for its size. I like the double choil -to each his own!

Hump allows kinetic opening and its odd shape has "psychological" impact for sch a small knife.

I've admired it and played with it ...

Yep. Way under-rated! Not a knife for a lot of heavy work because of the second blade in the handle limiting the comfort of the grip, but easily the best combination blade knife I've seen. I was surprised how big it was when I got mine.

The pointy blade is pointier than half a needle split ...

My Jot Singh Kalsa is the smoothest opener I have.It opens more smoothly than my Shabaria, perhaps because the blade balance is different and there's such a pronounced hump for the hole.

Smooth and "easy" can be confusing though.

When did the Experimental become the Navigator...or vice versa? I have an Almite/ VG10 Navi and a G10/Gin1 Exp. Great little cutters.

I just received a 1st Gen BRK FRN PE Native today in the post and I must admit I'm seriously disappointed. The blade fit up is poor with a pronounced step of ~1/16" up onto the lock spring from the blade when open. The blade also seems to be about 1/64" thinner than the spring and there is easily a ...

Check Mike Harrison at British Knife Collectors Guild (www.bkcg.co.uk) - full price (about on a par with Heinnie's). Interesting web site.

Which Civilian is which?

Hi,

First up, congratulations on a fantastic discussion forum -I've learned a lot just browsing through!

I have a few Civilians and was wondering if anyone could tell me a little more about the model history.

I have

1) A serrated G10 ATS-55 without the Boyes dent in the lock lever, and ...
