Blade shape.
Lil matriarch has a straighter blade with a usable belly, Good for slicing with a back and forth action. This cutting method would lead to you putting a positive pressure forwards with your hand in some circumstances. On any knife where forward pressure may be applied( slicing or ...

Just received word that mine is in the country and on it's way to my door.
I've had it on pre-order since January, probably my most long awaited knife so far.

As others have stated.. the spyder hole is a sign of quality not weakness... what were you thinking to open that can of worms Slash?

Stripped screws are, unfortunately more often then not, a user error. Picking the wrong tool for the job or a poorly manufactured (i.e Cheap) tool is the most common reason, be it torx, inhex, philips or standard old hex head bolts.
AFAIK all spyderco screws are torx variety, not to be confused with ...

It's important to have at least 2: one knife that's not going to scare anybody, and one that is.

Haha. Just found a quote for my forum signature. Love your work.

Also: I work 60% office, 40% onsite working on machinery.
My EDC is usually 1 or 2 blades on my person, A manix 2, Para 2, Millie or ...

I'm aware that this will be the first time Spyderco have shipped S90v to the Taichung knife makers for production.
However, being a Taichung produced blade is a good thing imo. I've found anything Spyderco from the Taichung manufacturer is nothing but perfection in F & F.

Why? Just curious.
My guess is he is afraid of chipping.
The common misconception portrayed by people like nutnfancy is that a camp knife should be a beater. Something you should use to baton with, chop down trees with or hammer with.

I don't know what sort of camping everyone else is into, but ...

Did you watch the video of Sal talking about it? If you watched the video and you don't get it, probably not for you...

Indeed. The video just re-enforced for me what I already suspected, a superb knife designed by a great knife maker.
In Sal's words "It's really not a knife for beginners, It's ...

KC had the ETA set as Feb 2012 for a long time and recently changed it to April 2012. I often wonder if the knife shops know more than us in terms of release dates or if it's all just speculation, regardless, last I read from Sal (in a blade forums post) was that it is expected to be an April 2012 ...

So the only issue with mine is the bevel is messed up around the tip. Looks like the tip got hit twice during the grind and pushed the bevel off center.

You know what though... I don't care. I'm not sending it back. If it becomes a real issue, I'll man up and reprofile it myself. Might even learn ...

Uhhh...be careful. It only works if you cut backwards using your left hand. Unless of course you're south of the equator, in which case all you Aussies/etc. can disregard and use it normally. That is the design purpose of the so-called backwards jimping. It isn't backwards at all and it isn't a ...

Took about a week and a half to arrive.

Customs had not opened the box to do the flick test.
The pivot screw had been tightened significantly :) Thanks KW!

Anyone rocking the Navaja will testify that the clip coating it's a whole different beast to any other. It doesn't scratch or seem to wear at all. It appears to be a quite thick coating, Alot like a powdercoat but more solid. It's gloss, not anything like the blade DLC. As i mentioned in the OP, the ...

Pocket clip coatings observation. (incl pics)

I was in the midst of taking a photo of my Schempp pair when I noticed something interesting. I'm used to fair wear and tear with pocket clips; they rub on stuff and get scratched / lose paint etc.

But It has become quite obvious to me now that their is a huuuuge difference in pocket clip coating ...

Indeed, I completely missed the Japanese vs US steel thing last night in my drunken state of posting.
I guess what I'm really after then is a US or taiwanese made spydie, lockback, twill CF, Elmax, about 2 3/4 to 3 inch blade, wire pocket clip.... so a chaparral with elmax ;P

How about an Elmax Caly 3 CF?

The Caly 3 is my idea of the gentlemans folder. I'd love to see a version where we swap the ZDP varient for an elmax varient. Perhaps peel ply CF or Sage 1 style instead of the smooth finished stuff?

What do you guys reckon? Time for another Caly 3 sprint?

M390 no doubt, it's a bit like comparing oranges to ... well... better oranges I guess.

Having said that, I am astounded at how good BD30P is. I expected something soft and horrid, but it holds an edge better than S30v (even though it is almost identical to s30v, maybe its a better heat treat), and ...
