Endura, Delica, Stretch, etc. all have MUCH looser clips (still hold on but not too much). I agree the Tenacious clip is too tight for my liking, although I don't have a problem getting it out quick one handed. Just clipping it to my pocket takes both hands. I definitely prefer the strength of the r...

That's funny, for me the Tenacious was one of my best and easiest flippers...at first I couldn't flip my endura FFG, but the Tenacious came fairly easy (although I had to use wrist action). Now the blade just pops out with thumb tension. And I never loosened my pivot, in fact I tightened it a bit be...

Thanks for the feedback guys. I wondered what that code meant...that basically puts my fears to rest, as the code indicates it was manufactured in april of this year. It definitely makes me feel better to hear that a stain is common and nothing to worry about (I'm used to being vigilant about rust)....

Most likely is that someone, somewhere in the chain of possession between the factory in Japan and you, touched the blade. Could be the guy who assembled it in Japan, perhaps it was checked by customs, perhaps your knife was inspected by Spyderco in Golden, or perhaps a new guy at Moteng wanted to ...

With VG-10 it's "normal" in the sense that it is fairly common, but not universal. Doesn't bother me, but you can always use a mild metal polish, like Simichrome, to remove it if it bothers you. Ok, cool. As I'm sure you can tell I'm pretty "perfectionistic" (anal) when it comes...

Carbon steel blades may be a different story but, IMHO, edge degeneration on stainless steel knives is more urban legend than fact. I have some NIB five year old Kiwis that are sharper than some NIB year old ones and less sharp than others. I'm inclined to agree with Scottie that it's more a factor...

Is it a big deal to have some mildly darkened/stained spots? is it normal for VG-10? I had heard of it for ZDP but not VG-10

Haven't bought a Stretch in a while, mine are early and unmarked. You say you got it at YCS. Where was it shipped from? Most of the stuff they sell seems to be drop shipped for them by Moteng, a Spyderco distributor in California, rather than from New Hampshire. I ask because distributors tend to r...

so there's definitely no functional disadvantage to buying a knife that's been sitting around for a year? I'm noticing what appears to be the slight beginnings of a patina/darkening of the surface near the tang. could be mistaking something else though

Hey guys, today I just received my spyderco stretch (most basic black VG-10), the knife I'd been most coveting for a long time and out of the box I am really digging it. However, I am somewhat surprised and disappointed that it doesn't appear to have sal's logo anywhere on it, and I understood that ...

Wow, very interesting! I thought the sharpmaker was sal's first item to be sold, didn't know about the Portable Hand. Looks like a pretty elegant design--I wonder how much one would go for on ebay

Hopefully it probably will have the logo, the stock at YCS seems to go pretty fast

Awesome collection! I've been lurking a bit as well (mostly just when I needed an opinion about a knife or material so I did a search). I hope to have a collection as varied as your someday. Although I love all my blades, all the $50+ ones are in VG-10 so next I'm gonna try to get a little more stee...

http://spydiewiki.com/index.php?title=GIN-1/G-2 Similar to AUS-8 but not quite According to that chart it has more carbon and chromium than AUS 8 or 8cr. I believe I saw Sal post that it has better edge retention than AUS 6/8 and the 420/440 series, and the composition backs that up. only .05-.15 l...

Is Gin-1 an adequate blade steel? I guess its probably better than the 8cr13MoV you'd get for pretty much the same price point. I'm diggin the drop-point LW's style, my only hesitation would be the blade steel.

I don't know how many people will pay $150 for a less than 2" blade :D

What am I saying, they'd sell like hotcakes. I'd buy one.

I have found that I can adjust center on these knives by simply flexing the closed knife between my hands as if I am trying to "bend" the handle. I attribute this to the construction of the knives (there are 5 layers: 2 handle slabs, 2 liners, and a back spacer) If you can get these compo...

Blade centering issue endura FFG

A few weeks ago I got my first Endura FFG (in green FRN). It's an awesome knife, razor sharp with a great lockup and no bladeplay. However, there was one issue that I noticed--the blade is not centered. It's not so bad that it's rubbing against the liners or anything, but I'd say the tip is off cent...

Watching that video, I think I have an idea what caused the "failure" (just a theory). They do the cuts into the wood first which really stresses the pivot. when they were done with that, there was TONS of bladeplay, like a ridiculous amount. If it's like that, of course the lock is liable...
