If the scratches/marks are on the flats of the blade near the Spyderhole, and you are unhappy with them, send the knife back to Spyderco for evaluation. It may very well be something they can correct. If not, they may consider it enough of an issue to replace the knife. The only way to know for ...

Food prep & black blades

I'm in the market for a Bill Moran which I intend to use for EDC, camping, hiking and food preparation.
Yes, I have other knives for the same purpose, but you guys know that's not the point here....
I love the looks of the black blade version, but I was wondering if the coating on the black blades ...

No doubt it's my lack of sharpening skills, but for me it might just be too hard to do.
A VG10 military is more like me! (desert tan G10 handle perhaps)

The UKPK has a built in resistance halfway closing the blade as an extra safety against the knife snapping shut inadvertently.
You can also feel this while opening it. Compared to the Caly, which is essentially the same design as the UKPK with a backlock, it is less smooth.
It doesn't bother me at ...

For a small inexpensive wharncliff I have a Kiwi 3 in my arsenal. Steel not high end but it's a light use knife so that's not a problem.
Love that white neck knife BTW.

What I read about VG10 intrigues me. I would really like a combo edge, its too bad that the Para doesnt seem to come with that option.

Personally I'm not a fan of combo edges, but for a combo you'd probably have to go with the Endura, a Spyderco classic.
I'd go for the Para 2 though, I have a ...

I'm in a similar boat buddy,

I have always bought leatherman multitools, swiss army knives, kershaw value folders with assisted open, etc. Even as a kid I loved knives. In April I bought a blue FFG Delica, then a Tenacious. Since then I have bought a Manix 2 DLC, Para2 Digicam, Caly2 CF, Hawkbill ...

A Salt version of the FRN UKPK would be wonderful and perhaps not too complicated; FRN scales and no liners already fit the bill; make the FRN yellow (great colour!), a H1 blade (don't know if the other metal components are already rust proof so that may be a factor) and presto!
But OK that's easy ...

This sounds like a serious addiction in the making ;)
My first "expensive" knife was the Paramilitary 1, the predecessor of the actual model, for about he same price. I've never regretted it and still use it regularly.
Why not always? Because it has to compete with it's stablemates that seem to grow ...

I like choils. They give you lots of control.
For some reason I'm being more careful not to slip over the guard of a knife without a choil like the Delica as opposed to e.g. the Caly or (Para)Military.
Just my opininion.

Byrds are an entry drug. I started buying Byrds and liked them but would have considered spending $ 100 or euro's on a knife ridiculous. Then I tried a little more expensive knife, the Tenacious. And then a Paramilitary which I suddenly didn't find expensive at all. And then of course I had to have ...

It's your knife, so do as you please. I'd leave it alone because I'd want to have the "original" colour as it was designed. But that's just me.
