I'm completely hooked.......

#1

Post by ac700wildcat »

Three months ago I posted asking what Spyderco knife I should get to get a taste of the companies knives. They looked weird to me and I wasn't sure if I would like them or not. I had all kinds of suggestions and ended up picking up a pe Manix 2 and a blue ffg Delica. Then I decided to order a Sharpmaker, diamond rods, uf rods, and a couple bugs. Then I got an M4 Manix and not long after that a zdp189 Stretch. Now tonight I'm looking around and see that Howe's has Para 2's on sale for just under a hundred bux and I just had to have one........................so its on its way. I ordered a satin blade with digi camo. I'm not usually much on camo knives, but something about this one just stuck out to me.

Anyways, I have another pile of spydies that I really want including a PPT, the new Manix sprint that was just announced, Military, Dragonfly, and on and on. My list of other knives that I want from other makers has shrunk to just a few.

I'VE BEEN BITTEN!!!

I'm in a similar boat buddy,

I have always bought leatherman multitools, swiss army knives, kershaw value folders with assisted open, etc. Even as a kid I loved knives. In April I bought a blue FFG Delica, then a Tenacious. Since then I have bought a Manix 2 DLC, Para2 Digicam, Caly2 CF, Hawkbill Ladybug Salt, and a Sharpmaker.

I'm hooked as well. Never thought I'd spend $100 plus on a knife EVER, but then I saw the quality and Spyderco hooked me similar to the way I was hooked on collecting watches. I love good design and quality and collect anything that provides the same joy of ownership as Spyderco.

Keep me posted on what you're looking at next. I always have my own shopping list and love helping others choose.

Just a heads up: You can get free shipping from cutleryshoppe.com by using the coupon code nutnfancy or get 10% off Tacticaldefender.com with the code GD73

I just got my Para2 on Wednesday from TD and paid $105 with shipping included.

Yup, I knew about the cs code, but they were out of para 2's. I got the one from Howes for $98 and change and also ordered an Izula that I've been wanting so I was over the $100 for free shipping. Thanks for the tacticaldefender code. I never thought I'd spend so much on knives either, but I guess it happens and I can't say I regret any of my purchases at all.

Jwrick, its good to hear you like the PPT....theres just something about it that really makes me want it.

It's been an interesting journey for me as well. Went from about 40 knives down to a little over 20 and still never lack for an appropriate blade.

The PPT is a terrific and useful piece of work. Mine is also carried quite often.

I'm suprised :Spyder:'s aren't more popular. For me it seems you get much more for the dollar. However folks seem to be fiercely loyal to their BM's and Kershaw's. They make some nice knives, but for me Spyderco gives you more.

We're gonna need a bigger boat. :) Lots of people have the same story of only wanting one good knife and now have 10+ (or some ridiculous number like some people here :eek :) . I’d love to see some of these guy’s collections but no one will invite me to their home. :(

I was always dissatisfied with how long my knives stayed sharp so about 6 years ago started looking at better quality knives. I wanted one good knife. (haha) I really struggled when buying my first $40 knife. Now I don't even blink at the price of knives. I can't afford them all the time of course but the price doesn't shock me. I bought two brands mainly, Spyderco and the other one. Spyderco has been the company that has satisfied my search for a nice set (IMO) of user knives. Now I have a dressier knife, small EDC and heavier use knifes (all EDC). Also, lesser expensive work knives that if I damage I won't freak out even though I haven't been able to damage them yet. Spyderco provides the best variety of knives compared to other companies it seems to me. But, my experience has been limited to on-line shopping. And there are several companies that make great knives and Spyderco is in the lead for production knives IMO. The "other" company I bought a few knives from gave me some failure issues. The issues were resolved with outstanding customer support and satisfaction. I haven't had any problems with Spyderco products. I have the Spydewrench also which is REALLY nice. Still, there are 3 or 4 knives I still want even though (as a user of knives) I have no need for them. I just WANT them and I will HAVE them. Lol The only knife I could say I need is a salt just so I’ll have a non-rusting blade. Having said that I haven’t had any corrosion problems AT ALL. I use Tuf-Glide so I give that product credit for no corrosion. I’m going to sell some that I never use to pay for the ones I still want. There is a selling web site that is like ebay only it is free that I’ve been thinking about putting the knives on. If someone sees an item and wants it they come to your house or you mail it to them. It seems pretty cool. We already got a rocking horse for our grandson from someone who advertised on this site. I don’t know if I can mention the name in the forum so I won’t.

Anyway, I thank Spyderco for providing me with a very nice set of knives to use because I have always valued quality tools but never included knives into the “quality” category I’ve had for my other tools. Now I wish I had the pleasure of using nicer knives when I was younger.

The hex idea has some merit :) The hex seems to have overflowed into a sharpness compulsion as well :D

Me too! I always found Spydercos ugly, but I bought my first :spyder: (a Tenacious) in January 2010 with an Amazon gift card. Little did I know it would lead to over 100 Spydies that first year alone. I've finally gotten all the basics and current production models I want, so now I'm just buying new models and sprints that interest me.

Jack,
You can stop by, when you will be in the area.
The results of my addiction is not as bad to compare with others. I have three knives in the pockets of my pants (Persian, Caly3.5 and Navaja), few on my desk (new Lum, Damascus Delica, Lil Persian with wood scales, Meerkat, few spares in the desk and the rest above my desk for viewing pleasure.

It makes me smile that such a diverse group is all drawn to the same company :)

I seriously have to attribute this to quality, thoughtfulness of the designs, diversity of products, and a sense that the company genuinely listens and cares. All in a production knife. Think of where this started from and I think we have an answer :)

Thanks Sal :)

HAHAHA

yeah, those are my other addiction. Also a very expensive thing to collect. I don't even buy the pricey ones, but I love complex looking watches with cut-away designs to show the parts moving inside. I generally buy Citizen, Seiko, Fossil, ESQ/Movado.... can't afford the TAGs or the Breitlings :o

Yeah, on second thoughts you could be correct pico, because a torx can be screwed down tighter. Add a drop of locktite.

I found Spyderco after Lums were discontinued, price was very high and Lums were iconic. I wanted all of them, finally found few Tantos in the store and choose black blade Tanto CE. Probably it is still most expensive of my :spyder: .
I am not a big fun of black bladed knives (or tantos), but love the knife. I love the blade on the new knife even more. Grind is beautiful. I think that this sprint is a great opportunity for new spydernut to get this classic design.
