Re: CPM-3V for Culinary/ Processing Game

I keep 3v in the kitchen. No issues, sometimes (very rarely) i see like a small spot, but it can be wiped off with a kitchen towel. i don't try to protect them, i just use them.
The first two are 3v:

Re: CPM-3V for Culinary/ Processing Game

Honestly I think choosing steel just on one property like toughness without considering the geometry is a mistake. Any steel can deal with bones if the right geometry is used.

Usually (usually) people making knives choose the steel wisely. I didn’t know people were using 3V in kitchen knives ...

Re: CPM-3V for Culinary/ Processing Game

A semi stainless steel won’t interact with food in a noticeable way.

Why LC200N? There are a lot of good stainless steels between 3V and LC200N.

I read that LC200 has a high toughness rating. One of the highest for a stainless, IIRC. I wanted something that wouldn't chip easily if I hit a ...

CPM-3V for Culinary/ Processing Game

I wanted to hear some opinions on CPM-3V with regards to culinary use and processing wild game. I've seen some nice kitchen and hunting knives in this steel. My understanding is that it is tough as all ****, but I'm concerned with corrosion in an uncoated blade.

Is CPM-3V known to react quickly ...

The ARI B’LILAH, a Jumbo Swick?

I was wondering if Spydero ever produced a knife like the ARI B’LILAH. It looks like a very interesting design, almost like a giant Swick.

I searched and found Jay Fisher produces them with a price tag of 7k a piece. I'm not really sure if they are worth that - maybe just scarcity playing a role ...

Re: Sal - a request for spyderco fixed blades

The thread asks for more fixed blades, but the conversation is more about sheaths and G-clips.

Are there any fixed blade requests?

I'd say a classic bowie design, something like the 119, but using a higher end steel, G10 handles and a true full tang.

Maybe a sprint run of the Respect ...

Re: Idea For A Fixed Blade

The only available bowie I've seen that is somewhat similar is the Natchez from CS. For the price though, I'd rather the Respect or Province. I'm not sold on the cable tang used in the Natchez, it's 3V though and looks rather stout.

I think there's a market for classic style Bowies, think Respect ...

When Is Carbon Steel The Right Choice

Just trying to learn some more on steel type applications.

Cost aside, when is a carbon steel the correct choice over a high end stainless? Case in point, I see some companies now producing what is basically a Kabar in stainless steels such as S30V and Magnacut.

Is there any situation for a ...

Idea For A Fixed Blade

Just thought I'd post this up here. I've seen a few Randall knives and thought of two models that maybe Spyderco could look into putting their spin on.

- Randall Model 14 Attack
- Randall Model 12 Smithsonian Bowie

Two iconic American knives. I think it would be really cool to see them in a ...

Re: Different knife different day, or one knife for life?

I have a Civilian that stays on me 24/7. I've carried the same Buck 110 for ~15 years, it's started to develop lock rock, so I'm looking to replace it with a Native Chief.

My fixed blade will change depending on my attire and location.

Re: Hunters!

My primary would be a fixed blade, simply due to the fact that it's easier to clean.

Personally we bring three knives each hunt. That way we can rotate if one becomes dull and another guy can sharpen.

We go for deer, moose, black bear, wolf, and coyote.

Re: China

For me, I look at quality first. If the country of origin is the US, Canada, or Europe, that's a plus. I'm not into politics. I judge people by their workmanship.

With that said, I've never seen a Chinese made product that could stack up to its North American or European counter-part.

Hi Civilian_G10,

As mentioned, we don't shy away from knives used as weapons, but discussion is mostly for defense, not offence. Obviously, we have many models that were designed with defense in mind.

I agree with Mike , and would also suggest training. Depending on where you are, there are ...

I think you are spot on in challenging yourself to deploy your folders quickly and positively. That is one element of defensive knife training that many instructors gloss over--or they focus on training and demonstrating with non-concealed fixed-blade trainers to avoid the ...

Absolutely! I didn't mean sound like it's a taboo topic that's not allowed. I only meant, it's not a very common subject of conversation. That's all.
No worries. I'm obviously new here, so I didn't want to ruffle any feathers.
