Me too. I love the Chap and UKPK platforms about equally, but MC Salt elevates the UKPK in this case.aicolainen wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 2:36 pm...the UKPK MC Salt is the next slipjoint on my list, and has been for quite a while.

Re: Titanium Tenacious
I love Ti and I love the Tenacious. I'm okay with, but not excited about, 8Cr. I'm not wild about blue ano, but I have to admit it looks good with black.
How durable is the budget black oxide coating?
Price looks to be about $125-130, which is reasonable IMO.

Re: Chaparral slipjoint!
I thought a Chaparral Slipit would be an automatic buy when I heard it was in the works but, having just bought a birdseye maple Chap whose wood looks like it's from a Home Depot lumber aisle, I'll probably wait for a different handle material. The knife was priced well so it's all cool, but I didn'...

Re: My thoughts on the Native Chief LW
The OP was awesome! Love that type of review. Doesn't this knife have the same construction as other linerless FRN models like the Stretch 2 XL and the various Salts? If so, the assembly technique should be down pat by now. All of my Spydies of similar construction work great, no washers or lube req...

Re: Does sunscreen or sunblock help?
My skin has held up well for the years I've spent outdoors: cycling, hiking, running, fishing, hunting, skiing, water-skiing, swimming, gardening, ranching, etc... Yet I've still had to endure 4 surgeries for basal and squamous cell carcinoma. I now wear a hat, long sleeves and sunscreen anytime I'm...

Re: Help choosing gift
For fishing and, in fact, ordinary EDC, it's hard to beat 1) the Stretch 2 XL Salt and, 2) the Pacific Salt 2. They come in both plain and serrated edge. The Stretch 2 XL Salt is available only in H2 steel, which is great. The Pac Salt comes in both H2 and LC200N, which is also great. Both steels ar...

Re: Finally got a G-10 Manix
The knife comes with a "heavy" spring. Replacement medium and light springs are available. I can operate the lock okay with the original spring, but I prefer the "medium." For me, the knife becomes too easy to open and close with the light spring. Or, as Rusty said, you can chop ...

Re: Tell Me About The Serrated Z-Cuts
I have both a PE and an SE Z-Cut. I use the PE at the table only, and seldom at that. I use the SE much more often, but also as a "steak knife," not for culinary purposes. It will definitely do a number on tomatoes, but so will pettys, santokus, Kiwis, etc. I tend to use at least a 6-in st...

Re: frankensalt - yay or nay?
I plan to do this with both a pair of Pac Salt 2s and a pair of PM2 Salts. I’ve also put Ti scales on an LC200N UKPK.
It’s a thing. Do it. Do it now!

I agree 100% with pretty much everything you said. I'd prefer a Salt, but anything would be an automatic buy.

Re: Partially Serrated CombinationEdge FRN Police Please? Anyone Else Want One??
Sure seems like combo edges were more popular 25 years ago. I used to purposely seek out combo edges, but eventually decided I wanted them one way or the other. Evolving uses, I guess.
That said, it does seem like the Police 4 would be one of the best candidates for CE.

Surprisingly, pork rinds of the Epic, Baken-Ets and Randall's Signature Select brands fill that niche for us. My wife is a health nut, and she's the one who introduced them to our pantry. Thanks for this. I tried the pork rinds and maybe I should give them another try. I had a bad experience since ...

Re: An ongoing mystery: Why still no ffg Manix 2 SE? (NOT meant as a complaint)
I have no interest in a serrated Manix 2 in any steel, but I still don't understand why there aren't any in the lineup. It seems obvious there should be at least one. Maybe they haven't wanted to introduce a new blade until the screwed CQI came out, or until the Salt release. My guess is it's just a...

Re: My first SLIPIT experience / Spyderco Urban
Nice review, Palestrina! (It's back.)
The Urban is one I've considered several times, and never quite pulled the trigger. If it's as good as my UKPKs, it looks like you've found yourself a nice knife.
And Tristan, I'm not a fan of cheap plastic either, but I absolutely love expensive plastic.
