Re: Community Sharpening Journal
Received the DMT stone AND a x30/x60 magnifier. The magnifier is working wonders ! Way better than an actual microscope going x40 to x1600 :eye-roll . I'll see if i can take a pic through the glass of the magnifier, just need a stand, like a soldering base or smth. Even when holding knife + magnifie...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
I've ordered a DiaSharp diamond benchstone in 600 grit to play a bit with this brand and see how it works. If it is good enough I might take the 1000 or 1200 too. It's almost double the price for the high grits here in France, because more numbers equals to more money :zany If it's good enough at 6...

If you wanna keep with the Manix, and keep doing "stupid" stuff with it, I'd go with the toughest possible !
Isn't it the 52100 one? Would be pretty hard to find however...

Re: What does it take to make full SE?
Considering how Sal or other representatives have talked about this like they talk about the investment for a FRN mould, I would say custom wheel made for each model.
This means totally different budget in that case.
Then the steel enters into account, and that must be a whole other problem lol

Re: Endura 4 ZDP-189
Well, after some use I can see some stuff about the Endura 4, maybe just the ZDP-189 in particular, maybe just my knife, or maybe all Enduras. - I discovered the infamous backlock's vertical play, even if it is the tiniest bit of it. I was used to the Native 5 so it is really hard to not go bananas ...

Re: Which knife later grew on you?
.... For me it's the Manix 2. ... Same here, though in my case the lightweight version. ... Pardon me, I used your little trick to shorten the quote lol. I forgot because i only see it as a LW knife but I meant Manix 2 LW too ! I have the BD1N version now, and had the BD1 before. I sadly missed any...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
Finally managed to get a good edge on my Native 5 LW in s110v. I had to use a microbevel because i kept introducing micro chipping at the apex. The knife has been sharpened at the initial ~15° edge from 100F to 400F grits of the diamond bonded in resin of the venev whetstones and then a 19° microbev...

Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.
Any input is good from my point of view. Trying the SE is like discovering the knife world once again for me ! I like the sound of "allround blade", considering i'll be trying this with no particular use in mind, the use cases will come along the way :) Thank both of you, next month is gon...

Re: Which knife later grew on you?
I do not know if you meant for all knives or just Spydercos, but I'll keep it to Spyderco just in case. For me it's the Manix 2. Had it for some years without really using it. This summer, going to help a friend restoring his house, I picked it up only for the blade length, and to not break another ...

Re: An Endura/Byrd style Tanto tip release?
IMHO tantos often perform less than the other blade shapes Spyderco might use. Ok the tip is more "durable/tough", but I never broke any tip on my knives (even being somewhat stupid with them sometimes). I'm more about cutting performance, and then we see hollow grinds on tantos for cuttin...

Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.
I totally agree with carrying a knife with a perpetual "perfect", fine edge. I do not let any of them go in the working edge territory. Super steels just (often, but not always) keep this fine edge longer, that's the benefit i take from them. I own enough knife to allow myself to sharpen a...

Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.
I did impulse buy a ZDP-189 Endura 4 lol.
But the next thing on my list is definitely a SE knife. The edge retention being improved on SE makes it so I can stick With the basic VG10 Endela no problem. Isnt H1 pretty different in SE configuration too btw?

Same with my Maxamet Para 3, best action on a Para 3 yet, fit and finish top notch, peerfect centering, and cherry on top : really really good factory edge.

20cv is basically m390, so I already know how it behaves, that's no fun !
I'm eager to see what surprises ZDP-189 has in stock for me ^^
I do not pry or anything else with my knives, I just cut a lot of meat, paper against cutting board, cardboard, etc.

Re: Endura 4 ZDP-189
I see, so the fact that the carbides are formed from chromium won't make it as much of a pain sharpening? I had quite a learning curve on s110v, took me 3 edges too gauge the pressure and starting grit ( I started too low, with really little pressure but that was enough too chip the edge while raisi...

Re: Endura 4 ZDP-189
By the way, before starting to play with it tomorrow night :
How does it compare to Spyderco's s110v in term of brittleness, does it have a tendancy to chip less, or more ?

Re: KnifeJoy 20cv Endura4
Only reason I didn't try the 20cv Endura 4 instead of the ZDP-189 FFG one is that the shipping from US might have ended badly (don't know this website's overseas shippings well).
That would've been the same price including shipping. Hope it wasn't a mistake lol.
