Do any of you remember those fixed blade Japanese fishing knives?
They were generally fixed bladed and had a single edged stainless steel blade with a fish scaler pattern on the back or top edge, where later hollow handled survival knives had a saw back, and some now have a serrated edge.
The handles and scabbard/sheath were both made from wood, bamboo, or plastic and when sheathed looked like one solid piece of material, like some of their swords.
They ranged in blade lengths from about 2 inches up to larger 3 to 4 inch and even 5 and 6 inch versions, and the blade had a drop point, generally.
The Fish Scaler edge resembled the Fish scaler blade on some of the older European and American Angler knives which folded, as made by Queen, Case, and Puma of Germany.
You can still buy these at various prices. They seemed to have been made in the 1950s to 1990s but peaked in the 1970s and 80s.
I have one and it can be used for everyday carry but seems more letter opener like.
I am sure Spyderco could make a superb one.
