Probably one of my favorite last resort self defense folders for a budget price with good build quality.
Pictured with my Byrd Hawkbill work knife.

Perfect, excellent choices.
Would you say the Wave Cara Cara 2 would be good for fishing, including cleaning the catch and making sandwiches and for an emergency survival knife?

I would have to say barely. It would work but I would prefer a hollow grind for fishing and cleaning the catch. I have wondered if the serrations would be good for scrzping and de scaling fish.
As far as an emergency knife goes. If it is all I got. Sure. In an urban or city environment.
I would prefer the Jumpmaster and a C.S. Recon Tanto for a survival knife.
Preferably my Jumpmaster in H2.

Thank you. I really like the Byrd knives. Especially being budget friendly. If I lose one of these. I won't be crying as compared to losing my SPY27 Military 2.

I plan on another Byrd knife down the road. Maybe a meadowlark.
My hawkbill sees a lot of use. Perfect for vines and cardboard boxes.

Josh, I greatly value and appreciate your posts.
Would you want to see Spyderco produce versions of the Byrd Cara Cara 2 with a 1 Tanto blade and 2 Spear Point blade?

Think of how durable a Byrd Cara Cara 2 with a 3.0 mm thick spear point blade of 8Cr or 9Cr stainless steel would be, with Lock Back.

I would love to see those changes and ideas you describe. I feel like ths Byrd line needs 2 or 3 new designs. I mean I own an Endura, Military 2, and a Jumpmaster. But Byrds will always have a place in my pocket and are really good for landscaping and rough projects I do.
I think more designs would give Byrd knives more justice.

Hi Josh,

The "Gooney" is out and a serrated version is in the works. Finishing up another design for the byrd line now.
