New Spyderco.com!

#1

Post by TazKristi »

Hopefully, most of you are aware that we launched an all-new Spyderco.com today!

I thought I'd share a little more information here.

We've been working on the new website for a significant amount of time. It's not the average out-of-the-box site, even though it is on a popular platform. What you see today is not all there is to come. This has been a tremendous undertaking, so some features and content will come out in phases.

We have extensively tested the site in development; however, there is no substitute for real-world experience. We're monitoring everything and will continue to do so. You will still see some changes/adjustments in the coming weeks as we receive more feedback.

Some things you won't see on the new website include order history, product registration, and archived products.
Order History: We didn't migrate every account to the new website. Some limitations and parameters prevented us from migrating everyone over the past 20+ years. Moving forward, you'll see information under your account that was not available on the old site.

Product Registration: This feature was custom-built on the old website (just like 95% of the old site). A relatively small number of customers utilized the feature, but we know that those who did really appreciated it. We are exploring possible alternatives to incorporate in a future phase, but they will likely be different since we cannot simply plug in our custom feature.

Archived Products: As you know, to say our product line is vast is an understatement. Each archived (discontinued) product has to be built individually. It's not as efficient as loading existing/new products. We will build out the archive, but it will take time. Please be patient and know that it's on the way.

Now, here are some things you WILL find on the new website.

Dark Mode: You can toggle between Light and Dark mode by using the icon in the top left corner. We're going to make some adjustments in the placement of that icon, so stay tuned.

Back in Stock Notifications: Do you really want something that's currently out of stock? You can sign up for an email notification when it's back IN stock.

Passwordless Authentication: Tired of remembering or updating passwords? You don't need one now. You'll just enter your email address, and you'll receive an authentication code to log in.

Guest Checkout: Don't want to create or sign into an account? Now, you don't have to. Guest checkout is quick and easy.

AI Boosted Search / More Filter Options: It's not ChatGPT, but over time, the search function will learn synonyms for common searches (e.g., someone searches for PM2 - they'll see the Para Military 2 even though PM2 isn't an official title or in any descriptions). Filters are more robust and responsive.

As I mentioned above, there's more to come, but in the meantime, please share your feedback here.

Thank you!

Kristi

Does the ability to add to cart reflect in stock inventory?

Love the filter to show in stock only items.

Didn’t see a play to open the new reveal but I could have missed it.

Thank you for building out the archived products- I'm sure it is a lot of extra work but I'm sure many folks enjoy looking through old models. I know I do.

Also thank you for the in stock notifications- big improvement.

Thanks!

The new site works perfect, it's fast and has a new security number check-in that is emailed to you, in order to login.

I just bought a few things and it works flawless, heck work so good, I went and ordered a few more things with a second order.

My bad, I forgot a couple things for the first order I placed, I know I get two shipping charges, it was my own fault and it has been like this all day too. It's Monday what else is there to say.

They had it, I got it coming lol. The new website is going to be great from what I saw though...

Hey Kristi

When will our OpFocus status be turned on? Had to reverify last month and all was good but don’t see it anymore.

The site looks amazing great job on this!

It’s there, just add an eligible item to your cart and you will see the discount.

@TazKristi speaking of OpFocus is it possible to still label items that are not available for additional discount? It can get a little confusing when some items like 15v are not eligible but you’re not sure if your discount is working or not. Additionally is there still a place to see how many items you can buy on the discount for the year? Thanks!

Wow, looks really great. Please tell the team working on it ‘great job!’

One of the features I enjoyed that was previously mentioned is being able to add 1000 items to your cart and then ‘update quantities’ so you could see how much of a certain item is really in stock. Living close to Golden, I would check that and if you guys had a certain something in stock, or I saw you running out, I would head out to the store and pick something up - that feature definitely has made a few sales, and probably more than just a few.

Right now, the ‘light/dark’ mode icon is obscuring the 3 bar menu icon in the upper left hand corner when viewed on an iphone, but you mentioned that would be changing.

Very exciting!

Cool.

Unfortunately, it looks as though I'm one of the casualties from the migration to this new platform, as my order history and account info has been wiped. Easy enough to rectify.

One thing to note, at least when accessing the site via mobile phone, is that the "Dark Mode" feature initially obstructs the drop-box menu to sign in to your account. I had to scroll down a ways, and then "backpedal" to gain access to the menu.

Anyways, the MagnaMax Mule release will be the perfect platform to test out the fluidity of this new investment.

Hey did "coming soon" models not get moved over to the new site? I've been watching this page for some time, and I just want to update my scanner:

Yes. If there is no inventory, you can't add something to the cart.

They did. The link is different now, but you can find it here:
https://spyderco.com/products/c223gmc-p ... salt%C2%AE. You can click on 'Notify Me When Available,' enter your email address, and you'll receive an email when it becomes available for purchase.

That wasn't really a "feature" as much as it was a loophole. During high-volume traffic, that practice would significantly slow down the old site. That practice also wasn't necessarily accurate. ;)

The new site is connected to our internal systems, and inventory will be managed differently. You're best bet, since you're local, would be to call SFO. They'll be happy to help you.

Like old site.
Click the menu button in the top left corner and select "Forum" (three stacked lines, also known as a Hamburger menu). The menu is now under that button instead of in tabs across the top of the site.

I Love the new site. I made a purchase day 1, and it’s already on its way (same fast turnaround)!

I appreciate the ‘notify me’ option…except for the fact that when a notification goes out, the race will be ON! :winking-tongue

I imagine remaining OpsFocus purchases will roll out as the site gets built out.

Great so far!
