Nitro V trouble
I recently picked up the Kizer Drop Bear in nitro V and when I formed a burr one section is impossible to remove it. Anyone had this happen? The rest of the knife went ok. It was a sub $70 model so maybe it’s just a bad heat treat?

Re: Nitro V trouble
Is there any way they can repair or replace it for you?
Re: Nitro V trouble
Could [just] be some fatigued metal at the edge from factory griding. Perhaps try apexing, then cutting off the burr a few times (try 3 to 5 times initially), then re-apex and see if it improves. Often times it will.

I was able to remove a bit more of the burr after careful alternating passes and stropping but there is still more than I’d like. I’ll try apexing it some more and keep removing it.
The parts that did deburr took a crisp edge which was nice.

Have you tried marking the edge with a Sharpie to see if you are hitting the whole edge? It could have a wavy edge from the factory if only parts of the edge are having trouble deburring. I'd be more suspicious of that given the symptoms.

Not yet. I did have to take it to my KME sharpener to even it out. I’ll try again with a sharpie on it.Scandi Grind wrote: ↑Mon May 12, 2025 5:02 pmHave you tried marking the edge with a Sharpie to see if you are hitting the whole edge? Since you have a KME, try reprofiling the edge to a more obtuse angle by 1 or 2 degrees. Also, like Scandi says, mark the edge with a Sharpie so you can see if you're hitting the entire edge bevel. I've experienced this problem with factory edges before. Should be an easy fix.RugerNurse wrote: ↑Mon May 12, 2025 7:04 pmNot yet. I did have to take it to my KME sharpener to even it out. Are you doing leading edge passes? Trailing? Alternating?
Removing burrs is easy. It’s avoiding building new burrs that is hard.

Re: Nitro V trouble
I bought a few Boker Solingen Magnacut knives and they all have heat treat issues. Half the edge does not deburr and does not get razor sharp. It's a **** joke. Then I bought a Boker Plus Hebdo in Nitro V and same thing. I'm at a loss. I'm posting this to say that Boker is unbelievably bad and that I am having Nitro V issues as well.
