Re: Slym In Stock
There's a lot I like about this knife.
I'm hesitant to be an early adopter though.
Things like detent & centering get pretty important to me on this type of knife.
There's a roughly 0% chance of me being able to check one out at a B&M knife shop.
I'd like to hear some real world reviews, but the attraction is strong with this one.

Kinda funny that the Slym has a fairly thick blade stock.

Got mine from KSF. It arrived earlier today.
Mine came sharp and centered, with a good detent.
Nothing much to say yet as I have only cut some paper with it so far.

Re: Slym In Stock
Thanks! Lockup is close to 50 percent as I see it. It locks up solidly with no discernable blade play. The lock doesn't slip when I apply pressure to the spine.
The lock release is easy, as there is enough room to get to the lockbar thanks to the relief on the showside scale.
The blade does not drop shut, however. It takes some shaking to get the blade fully into closed position. Since the flipper tab is small, I wouldn't call this one fidget friendly out of the box.
Using the light switch method deploys the blade snappily and consistently, but using a push button opening results in a partial deployment most of the time.
Re: Slym In Stock
I once had a SpyOpera, my only example of an Italian Spydie. It had some major side play when blade was closed and it drove me nuts; I had to sell it.
Does the Slym have any side play when closed? And how is the blade centering?

@Bdubs808, my Slym looks centered. It doesn't have any play when closed.

Re: Slym In Stock
How's the balance on this one? Right where it belongs or tail heavy? Does it "feel" light?

I've been in need of a titanium integral handled folder. I used to have a Nirvana, but I sold it. The bead blast finish on the blade drove me crazy.
I also had BM Anthem, sold it off too because the grind kinda sucked.
I was looking at the Chaves integrals recently, but opted to see how this Slym turned out. So far it's looking like a winner. I get paid on Friday and I have much to consider. I was gonna buy the 15V Millie 2, now I'm not so sure where the funds will go. After collecting Spydercos for a decade, it's nice to still get excited about a new model.

Re: Slym In Stock
Photo below shows the balance point behind the pivot area. It's a bit tail heavy, but not awkwardly so IMO. The overall weight feels similar to a PM2, though I'm not that particular about such things so I may be mistaken.
I'm still on the factory edge with the Slym. It'll probably never be as slicey as a Chaparral, but it can do fine tasks in a pinch.
Re: Slym In Stock
This one is really impressing me. It's smaller than I expected (maybe because of the smaller spydiehole being much closer to the pivot than the standard 1.1" tricked my eye in pictures) but it's got a full length blade crammed into a relatively short handle. Maybe I just got lucky, but the flipping action is probably the best on any Spyderco I've had, and it spydieflicks as well. The deep carry clip design is arguably one of the best out there, and I'm surprised we don't see it more often. The blade profile and in hand feel reminds me of the Vallotton, with that large hump around the hole. It's a real looker in person and it feels great in the hand.
That said this is very much an Italian made knife in look and feel. The rounded spine, the tiny pivot bearings, and the overall feel is unmistakable Maniago IME. Hard to describe exactly, but it's kinda the opposite of the "crispness" of Taichung.
For having the name "Slym", it does feel like the handle could be a little skinnier to match the thickness of the blade better, lighten the knife as a whole, and feel a little more appropriate for a gentleman's knife IMO. They also left a lot of material in the butt of the handle, making the balance point a little further back than I would've liked.
Regardless, they hit it out of the park with this one and totally redeemed themselves after my Techno3 experience. Also, it's an incredible deal for an integral knife, especially from Indiana Knives or Dack.
