Most Steels In One Design

#1

Post by Chieftjs »

Does anybody know of one Spyderco design that has been produced in more steels than any other? Anybody have a large collection of different steels in one particular design? I’m all the way up to 2 different steels in my Para 3 collection so no competition here.

I'd imagine the Delica has possibly been made with the most steel variety, barely more than the PM3/Para 3. Although none of those have seen every single steel from the Spyderco catalog...

Also, Mule Team?

I would say Delica, followed by Para 2 or potentially Millie. Manix 2 has to be up there also. I am speaking of knowledge and also first hand experience. I believe i have the Delica in 7 steels myself.

Oh yeah whoops I typo'ed, meant PM2.

But yeah owning several Delicas in steels that the Golden models never saw, and only thinking of a handful of steels that the Golden models had, which the Delica never saw, it's fairly close, but has to favor the Delica I think. Also adding in things like clad variants and Damascus, etc.
Was there a clad PM2, S90V/154 or something? Or not for the Paramilitary 2?

But also interesting to think about like REX121, RWL34, and the Italian used steels (N690Co, M398) that neither of the above models I mentioned have seen... Or the likes of 8CR13MOV, 9CR18MOV, etc

I will have to review Spydiewiki for exact totals when I am done with dinner prep. It's stir-fry night.

Ok, just for fun off the top of my head and without checking Google or wiki for the easy answer...

PM2 is Missing:
VG-10
ZDP-189
GIN-1/G2
ATS-55
AUS6A
H2
Super Blue
SG2
PD#1
VTOKU2
Damascus
HAP40

Delica is Missing:
S45VN
S35VN
S90V
S110V
52100
Elmax
4V
10V
15V
REX45
REX76
Magnacut
Maxamet

That's all I can think of myself... So maybe you're right, PM2 may be the all-time steel variety master!

Also interesting I must have missed that they did a Delica in S35VN and S90V.

Also thinking about the 20CP PM2.
I'll have to check that list see what other few additional steels PM2 had.

Thanks, so it's very close, cool to see, I rarely look into this stuff all stacked up together.

You can also add 20CP for the PM2

I forgot that one existed. Had to go back to wiki to see where it landed in the variant rollout.

Editing to add the Salt 2 steels (H1,H2 & LC200N) despite being a different model, I don't think you could convince any Spydie fan that they aren't the same.
