I just purchased a new Para 3 LW in 15V. I'm left-handed and tried to remove the screw holding down the wire clip. The screw won't loosen it just spins and the other side is just a smooth head. Other than sending it in to Spyderco is there something I can try to loosen the screw? I have a heat gun and a soldering iron but don't want to cause any damage.

I had the same issue with my beloved k390 Urban. Probably a matter of threadlocker, I solved applying a hot solder tip to the screw head till heating it, when Loctite melted...unscrewed all without any problem. Don't worry about damaging, just apply the solder the right time (about 30-40 seconds, probably less)

I find that it helps to get the barrel in a bind. Try putting a very thin screwdriver between the scales near the barrel, and press the handle down on the edge of a desk while you loosen the torx screw. Often just that little bit resistance will be enough to break the screw loose from the barrelOmak1 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 29, 2025 1:31 pmI just purchased a new Para 3 LW in 15V. Thank you both.
I'll try to jam the barrel first and if that doesn't work out I'll try my soldering iron

I tried both suggestions of putting the barrel nut in a bind and also heating the torx screw with my soldering iron tip. No bueno.
I sent the knife in for warranty service to reverse the clip. Too bad they could have had barrel nut with a torx head or in a "D" shape like the Endura.
It's sorta goes against my grain to pay $160 for a knife and then almost another $20 for shipping and insurance to reverse the pocket clip so I can carry my knife.

I am having the same issue with the same knife. I would like to get a set of AWT scales and a deep carry clip for it, but can't dissasemble the knife. I'm going to try the soldering iron method and see if that works. I really don't want to have to send it in just for a stuck screw.Omak1 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 05, 2025 11:43 amI tried both suggestions of putting the barrel nut in a bind and also heating the torx screw with my soldering iron tip. Has Sal or anyone from Spyderco addressed why they keep the stock clip tip down after all these years? I havnt done a study but get the feeling 90% of people reverse it immediately upon arrival while sweating to make sure they dont strip the loctited t6.w
