Here’s to the Crazy Ones: Unusual-looking Spyderco Models

#1

Post by Infinite Zero »

With the NAND now trickling out, another beautifully unusual knife wearing the Spyderco badge has hit the scene. These risky, avant garage designs are one of my favorite things about Spyderco, and the NAND will be my first dip back into this particular pool after unloading most of my collection a decade ago.

I miss my Dodo and Poliwog the most. Love those two extremely ergonomic, ambidextrous knives.

I had many more oddities in my collection, though the names escape me. Then as now, I gravitated to the knives that were friendly to me as a lefty, with full ambidextrous locks and clips.

What other strange designs have graced the pages of the Spyderco catalog? Let’s jog each others memories and celebrate these daring pieces together.

I'm always eager to remind everyone of Spyderco's greatest knife of all time - The PPT Perrin! :)

The NAND is a nice looking knife... very distinctive.
I'm tempted.

I feel that unusual-looking is in the eye of the beholder.

Of the ones I own, these look the most atypical to me:

I'm surprised no one has brought up the Jot Singh Khalsa yet, pictured here below a C42 Viele

Lots of awesome weirdo models shown here! I think I'd also like to mention the Parata and Introvert!

Yeah, the Jot Singh Khalsa, the Gunting, the Dodo, the Introvert, the Barong & Khukuri, Parata & Ouroboros, Navaja, etc...

I could go on for days. Fun thread. Maybe I'll try to get some photos later.

Some designs that people would consider crazy, are so familiar to me now to where they look normal in my head, but I have to take a step back and refocus to get a grasp of just how unique they actually are. Even designs many of us see every day, like the Yojimbo, Kiwi, or Lava or something, to many non-afis these would look so far out of the box at a glance it might be shocking.
Going back to Caly.

Khalsa yes, but the Viele is anything but unusual, that knife is absolutely beautiful and exudes class.
