MAP reductions for 2025?

#1

Post by Wallach »

Just wondering the official word - I noticed that now that we're into 2025 here that some models seem to actually have had their baseline MAP lowered compared to 2024. The Para 3 and Manix 2 Salt LW models, for example; the Manix 2 Salt MAP seems to be $151.50 currently, where it was something like $174 last year. How many knives does this apply to? It doesn't seem to be an across-the-board thing.

Edit: KnifeCenter looks like they have compiled them onto one new section:

Appears to be a lowering of MSRP on some models. MAP is still 75% of MSRP. Updated prices: https://www.spyderco.com/pdfs/2025_Reta ... _Guide.pdf

The Bodacious also dropped to $225 MAP ($300 MSRP).

If you're interested, @ekastanis has already done some of the heavy lifting by comparing prices from the 2024 and 2025 retail price guides. Looks like primarily Golden made models and a few from Japan that will be seeing a price reduction. :party-face

Cheez, I think I need to have my vision corrected, but it seems you can't feel the MAP reductions at those prices. Can't imagine paying $148 for a Para 3 LW DLC in BD1N, used to remember they were sub 100 only a few years ago and you could get a G10 Para 3 at that price.

g10 para 2's were under $100 back in the day too ;)

nice seeing some price drops instead of the yearly increase. lower prices means im more inclined to buy multitples of models I like.

I think I'm with you. The pink P3LWs is ~$100 from National (posted in the deals thread), so that shows what markup is still there. I paid under $100 for my Yojimbo from BladeHQ. The Yo family listed there on KC after these price reductions are $200+. Prices have gone up everywhere since I bought it, but there definitely hasn't been 100% inflation.

I assume these are all knives that aren’t selling super well. Interesting.

Spyderco inched their prices higher and higher each year until the consumer said to heck with that. Personally I’ve stopped buying spyderco knives like I did in the past because the value isn’t there anymore. I’m happy to see the prices coming back to reality.

The price drops likely wont effect our importer’s prices - they’ll remain sky high here.

For example:
The Enuff 2 in K390 = £353.99 or 439.84 US dollars!! :cussing :cussing :cussing

NICE! I thought the $300 street price for that knife was a little steep for my wallet. But the current $228 is a good deal. Maybe that's why some of the sellers are sold out. If I didn't already have one, I'd be all over this.

I don’t know if that’s an accurate statement. Inflation and other pressures have driven the cost of most goods up significantly. The hints Sal has given over the years seems to indicate they operate off a fixed margin target.

However, it does seem a lot of us have stopped buying. I went a couple years without buying a Spyderco until the recent MAP sale.

Even with my increased income from my personal business as well as my office job last year, I only bought 2 Spydercos for the whole of 2024. I could definitely buy what I want, but it seemed wasteful when the cost of everything has risen. Now I just bide my time and wait for MAP sales online, or save up if I anticipate an exclusive that's part of a collection I'm chasing (like the REC series).

Great to see this, thanks Spyderco. I’ve personally have been buying fewer Spydercos over the past few years (mostly waiting for MAP holidays) so this is good news.
It rains rust in Hawaii.
