How is there seriously not a G10 MagnaCut Para 3 on the market yet?

I just honestly can’t believe that no one has put in for an exclusive MagnaCut Para 3 yet.

I consider the Para 3 to be the flagship workhorse of a knife for smaller guys (and gals) like me. It has a fairly thick, stout blade with a frame that is built like a tank, while still offering acceptable cutting performance. It has a nice and large round hole that can be easily accessed with gloves, as well as a locking mechanism that can be used with gloves. It’s easily closable with one hand, and keeps your fingers out of the way of the blade. It rides considerably better in the pocket than the paramilitary 2 in my opinion too.

I use a M4 Para 3 with custom Micarta scales as my workhorse knife, but it would be wonderful to have a truly stainless version with a blade that is nearly as tough, while offering good edge retention.

I’ve had a set of custom Westinghouse canvas scales, and a full titanium hardware kit just sitting here for two years waiting for this to happen.

If you have the scales and hardware couldn’t you buy the salt para 3 lightweight and install it. Or does that not work? I don’t know

seriously though, my hope for these was pretty much dashed when spyderco labeled this a salt steel. there are only two salt knives in g10. since one is from this magnacut line, maybe there's hope, but it'll be years before that happen, if at all.

MagnaCut is nearly twice as tough as S45VN and has considerably better corrosion resistance. Perfect for a knife I am going to place in abusive situations.

Possibly. The lock faces often don't match up perfectly when you do this, so it would be a bit of a gamble. I did it with an M390 LW and a standard G10 Para 3 and it didn't work out too well.

I understand capacity limitations, but MagnaCut has been out for nearly four years. Surely that's enough time for someone to put in for an exclusive. Last I remember it was taking about two years to have an exclusive produced.

Yea... I pretty much feel the same. It seems like the only real hope is a dealer exclusive.

As David mentioned, limited production capacity is not only delaying a MC Para 3, it’s also delayed the satin MC PM2 from coming out yet. I doubt it will be a dealer or distributor exclusive since they have already released or are planning to (hopefully soon) release both a DLC and satin version of the PM2.

The last time I was out there (OpFocus seconds sale) the Factory Outlet Store was torn up for expansion and remodel and the new production machinery wasn't installed yet, much less new personnel trained to operate everything. Expansion, especially on that scale, takes time.

And now there’s three. :winking-tongue This is the love child of a yellow LW Salt and a standard S30V G10.

If (or more likely when) Spyderco makes this, I'll expect it to be a regular production Salt and not a dealer exclusive. Capacity is probably the bottleneck more than anything.

Maybe I'm wrong, but as far as I'm aware there hasn't been a lot of exclusive salts through the years. And for good reason I think. Salts are with few exceptions identified by their unique branding, i.e. colour scheme, and I think it would be a bad idea to "contaminate" their salt lineup with dealer/distributor specific colours. Besides, if they do the R&D to make this, I don't know why they would "give away" control of that design and limit it's reach and potential.

I have less than zero interest in a linerless Salt series Para 3 in CPM-MagnaCut. Deleting the liners and molding the locking mechanism into FRN defeats the whole purpose of having a tank of a knife.

If I were a betting man, I'd say they're having enough success with the Para 2 Salt that we'll see that same combo in a Para 3 and a Military 2. I think bringing MagnaCut in as a Salt steel is going to drive sales for these knives beyond what normal demand would be for a Salt model. Many of us have begged for a Military Salt for years, and I just can't believe that we'll never see either of these models in MagnaCut.
