Ti fluted Millie blade swap?

#1

Post by Fireman »

I found a Ti Fluted Millie. Question is, can I do a blade swap? Can I mod the lock interface to make it work?

No mods needed, the blade should swap fine.

Yes, it should work fine (assuming of course you’re swapping two Military 1s, not a Military 2 comp lock blade in…).

Good to know. I will try swapping my blurple S110V in and keep the original S30V pristine. Giggity

That's exactly what I did in the past, and it worked fine. When I get the change, I'm now going to try swapping in a black-coated 4v blade.

I’m a huge fan of the Ti framelock Military models and some of these blade swaps really give you the best of all available options. This is my DLC M4 blade swapped into the CF/Ti frame. This one and the S90V fluted one above are some of my most favorite swaps and carries among my collection.

Now if we only could get a LC200n or MAGA cut steel for the Millie. I’ll make my own salt Millie with titanium frame

I had also wanted to swap a magnacut blade into the fluted Ti Military, to match my Franken-Native. Unfortunately, it looks like only Military 2s will be produced from now on. Perhaps they will make a fluted Ti M2 at some point.

Oz Machining Co Roosevelt XL next to the Millie. The “Rosie” is a gem of a knife and more expensive but the Ti Millie is closer to my heart ❤️

It was a dumb attempt at a joke ;) I'm familiar with rosies, and have gotten to handle a few. Very nicely made, I'm just not a Ti framelock guy generally.

There's only one company I've found making XL folders that feel XL to my hands. Manix XL, for example, is a very snug fit for my hand and has a shorter blade than I like to carry.

On another note, how cool would it be to see an integral comp lock millie 2 with a Ti back scale and CF show scale? I missed those runs of the Millie 1 and thought they looked interesting. More solid in hand that the G10 version but much grippier and lighter than a regular Ti run.

I would guess a CF/Ti Military 2 would be easily doable for the Golden factory given the CF sprint run is on the horizon. A hybrid one would just take a Ti back scale to be made, which shouldn’t be an issue since it doesn’t include the lock. I would love to see an all Ti version at some point where the comp lock is integrated into the front scale akin to the all Ti PM2 prototype that was floating around years ago (plus the Ti ATR model successfully did it). One can hope!

So, a T2 or Ti-2 Millie. I like that. You could swap the CF for a G10 scale too. Voting for either LC200N or high Rockwell Magnacut. Salt Millie! Contoured titanium please, Santa 🎅🏿

Doh. :grin-sweat Totally forgot the show side scale is where the comp lock bar resides, haha. Guess the scales would have to be reverse for the Millie 2, with Ti show and G10 or CF back scale. Unless they made it "lefty" style (I put lefty in quotes because comp locks have always been ambidextrous for me).

A Ti-CF M2 makes a lot of sense but I guess it would be about timing the market and how many to produce. $500 and above knives are not selling as fast as they used to. What are everyone’s thoughts on a titanium comp lock liner with a steel insert?

Heck I will take one right now, long as the blade steel is good...
