It's an eBay feature called "Feedback." Click on the number following the seller's username and you'll see what his previous customers thought of him.

p.s. I echo Swede's sentiments, I've been using eBay since 1997 and never had a problem. Caveat emptor. read the description and ask questions.

I've bought most of my Spydies off eBay. I've had a couple probs, but given the volume,it's no worse than anything else that I've bought(and fewer probs than w/DVD's). There are several reputable large dealers that sell through eBay. A couple of my favs are Sawyer's(razorsharpknife),South Shore(ssknife),and allthebestdeals. I give the highest recommendations for those three.
The biggest thing to look for is how the knife is described. If it's new(NIB,LNIB,NOS) there shouldn't be a problem. If the knife is listed in used condition, check the photos carefully and ask questions of the seller. Your definition of 'like new' may be different from somebody else's. I bought a 'like new' SAK from a guy that had a dull blade and needed 2hrs of cleaning to get out the pocket lint. Check the seller's feedbacks. See if there's any negatives and what they have to say. If you have any doubts, don't bid. If it's something you want really bad and you pay w/PayPal,you can also get buyer protection(insurance). If things go south,eBay has pages dedicated to problem resolution, plus there's SquareTrade(www.squaretrade.com).
Overall,I'm real happy w/eBay. Prices are usually in line w/most Web retailers, and I've gotten some pretty sweet deals. SS D'fly for $25,a $78 Civilian, and a slightly used Buck Strider for $66. I've also picked up some rare items like a Flat Iron and an Owl Copilot. Basically,do your homework, and you shouldn't have any probs.

Just check the feedback and compare prices.I have gotten some very good deals on Ebay.
BTW I usally will not buy from someone if they charge more than 5.00 to ship in the US.This is the first thing I look at.I was going to buy a Photon 2 micro light for ebay for 7.95 buy it now but then noticed the guy was chargeing 10.00 to ship first class mail.It only costs .60 to ship a Photon.
I also notice some rare spydies that were listed last night.
I learn something new everyday, even though I don't want to. Jeff

I'll tell you exactly why, Disorder, having sold stuff internationally on eBay myself.
First is that filling out all the Customs declarations and forms is a pain in the tail, and when you have sellers that are dealing in high volume, you just can't stop and go to the post office to deal with Customs issues.
Secondly is that the mail systems in many countries (not specifically Italy) are notorious for corruption, theft, and loss and the risk in sending a package containing valuable goods internationally goes up exponentially.
It just isn't worth the extra risk and trouble for most eBay sellers. I don't sell internationally in my eBay auctions anymore. Some people are upset by that, but... cést la vie.

Never had a problem on eBay, and have bought quite a few Spydies there in the past few months, most of them discontinued models, NIB. Some have been real bargains, got a Massad Ayoob for $66, a JD Smith for $55, a SS D'fly for $27 and a burgundy micarta Jester for #25. Have also bought some, like the PE C38 Horn I just recieved the other day, that, while not bargains, were knives I was actively looking for and could not find elsewhere, at prices that I was willing to pay.
If the seller has a reasonable amount of feedback and a decent feedback rating (99.5% or better), you read the description and the shipping charges carefully, and you are not buying super expensive one of a kind items where authenticity becomes an issue, then it's a pretty safe place to buy.

Z, the sellers who send me the knives use USPS, and the description "collectible tool" or "collection knife" it's all he has to write (btw, i never lost an item -about 40 item from usa in 3 yrs- and with insurance isnt a prob anymore), anyway is undoubtedly a seller's right to refuse a buyer..seulment that i'm nervous when i see all these good offers that i cant touch..right now allthebestdeal has a bunch of offers..grrr..
..maybe i wrote also to you Z.,sometime in past, asking if "you can do an exception for this ?"
take care
