Top 5 things about the Native 3 (pics inline)

Post by rorschach »

I now have some carry time now on the Forum Native 3, here are my top 5 favorite improvements:

1. Very nice rounded texturing on the spine, plus anti-slip wedges on the top of the handle

<img src=http://www.scarysharp.com/images/fnat3.jpg>

2. finger "landing pads"

<img src=http://www.scarysharp.com/images/fnat2.jpg>

3. REVERSIBLE wire clip. These kinds of clips have grown on me, I did NOT like them at first, but I find that they do not catch/scratch things as easily

<img src=http://www.scarysharp.com/images/fnat6.jpg>

4. this cool texturing on the butt-end. What's it for? Looks good though.

<img src=http://www.scarysharp.com/images/fnat4.jpg>

5. And of course: the maker's mark. A cool new addition

All in all a very nice upgrade to a great knife.

Thanks for the detail photos, I had not noticed the makers signature logo. I have a Native III (not the Forum model)and used your post as a learning session. Thanks again.

The texturing on the bottom might be for when the knife is held in reverse grip and thumb-capped.

Thanks for the review and the pics. Though I'm not a big fan of the Native (I have a Golden Earth CPM-440V one and it never fit my hand like it should - like my Calypso jr. for instance), but your pictures almost made me want one <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
I guess the texturing on the butt is for a better reversed grip.
As another improvement, I would like to add the swedge of the blade, which is nicer than the original one IMO.

Nice image review, rorschach! I thought to my self that the little design on the end might be the mark for G. Saki. Ours also has the arrow part in the thumb hole. Thanks, for informing us! RKBA!

Hey rorschach, I don't think that is the makers mark, the new Golden made ATR has that little design on it's blade. Perhaps it is a new symbol for <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>.

Hi Alan, if you look closely the logo is a Stylized "SAL" or even SG. Poppa spyder's tag. Eric has one as well for the Dodo. They decided to put in-house designer's names on the knives now too!

Are they all coming with these features now, wedges and butt-texturing, or just the forum version?

Thanks,

I'm pretty sure they're standard on all the Native 3's now.

Just got mine this weekend,#'s 60 & 62(dang,who got 61?). Very nice. Only niggle is the black hardware(barrel bolt and rivet shoulders). Polished hardware really would've looked nicer w/the blue handles,like the Rescue 93mm.

Handles are the same as my regular 3D. I really dig the wire clips. Lower profile and they stay looking new.

For a minute I was considering trading w/you,but if I had a consectutive set I'd never use them.

I'm really trying to get the Spyder-bug under control. I even managed to stay off eBay while I was on leave!

Thanks, rorshach, so that is the designer's mark.
